They called today asking for my son. Offered them his cell number. Man kept repeating that he wanted to leave a message. Told him several times he would have better luck calling the cell. After he kept rudely interrupting me and stating he would like to leave a message, I said fine, what is the message? He then asked who he was leaving the message with. I told him I was his father. He asked for my name. I said you don't need that information. He said, I don't have time for this. I decided I didn't either, and promptly hung up on him.

Well after reading this I am happy they didn't speak when I answered a few minutes ago.  I have read other things about Portfolio Recovery that are not good.  I have surmised that what they do is get debt info on debts that are noncollectable by normal means.  They buy old debt and now I am adding possibly debt that was covered in bankruptcy.  If they get you to send in a small portion of this debt, you start the clock over and they can now pursue it as an active or collectible debt.  Do not even acknowledge the debt or the will call ou relentlessly in hopes they can get a small portion sent in to appease them.  From that moment on you are in trouble.

Called over last few days but hangs up before voice mail comes on.  Caller ID shows Portfolio Recovery.  I was called months ago by this company but a dfferent number looking for my ex-husband's wife.  Just because I have the same last name assumptions I know the information they seek.  The Attorney General needs to clean up this practice.  I am a senior citizen and do not owe these people a debt.

I have purchased my 6 year old daughter a pre-paid phone for emergency purposes only, and this number (410-575-1863) continues to call her phone almost on a daily basis. When I call it back it says that its "Portfolio Recovery"  I have called them numerous times and asked that they remove the number from their call list or whatever the reason they are calling is, and they stated that they were looking for a person by the name of Muhammad.

I don't know any Muhammad's nor is anyone in my family named Muhammad. I have spoken to two different managers in an attempt to get them to stop calling my 6 year old daughters phone yet they still continue to do so. I have been told on 3 other occasions that they don't even see a record showing that they have called my daughters phone number from (410-575-1863). but I still have the proof in the call log of the phone itself.

I was then told that the number would be removed and that I had to wait 24 to 48 hours for it to take effect. I did that, then was called again, I then complained again, was told it would be removed AGAIN. But was still contacted after that and after waiting another 24 to 48 hours.

I have just called them back again, requesting to speak to a manager, when I did that, I was hung up on 2 times. The third time I called back and requested a manager, I was first told that one wasn't available. I must have been such an A** hole (due to my frustration) that before I could even finish yelling at the person I was speaking with, I was interrupted by another RUDE person who identified herself as Tonji King who stated she was an "Account Manager" these morons must obviously think people are stupid, because if you think about it ever so slightly, the person who answered the phone in the first place is technically an "ACCOUNT" manager also.

either way, I made my complaint again, this time not being the nice person I usually am, and I was told that they show the number was removed on the 31'st of July, today being 8-8-13. So I asked why then is my daughter still receiving phone calls from your company. Then I was told that there is more than one way to remove a number and that the first way it was done (every time I called keep in mind) it was apparently done the incorrect way. So after being rudely interrupted while explaining to her what the "issue" was, since she asked, she finally stated that she would take care of it.

So here we go again, round 5. I will wait another 24 to 48 hours and see what happens. I did search online and come across this website http://units.acainternational.org/va/default.aspx?cid=734   which led me to call and try to speak to Donald W. Redmond who identifies himself on this Federal Trade Commission "Round Table Comment" as the "Senior Counsel" for Portfolio Recovery Associates (PRA) with no luck. instead I got a secretary/operator which stated that she shows that my daughters number was removed on 7-31-13 and that she also shows no record of the phone call my daughter received today (big surprise).

She, being completely rude as well, stated that the number has already been removed and that there is nothing else that can be done about this. She then asked for the number that is calling my daughters phone, which I stated was 410-575-1863, she then had the nerve to say that the number I gave her was for a completely different company by the name of Portfolio Recovery, not Portfolio Recovery "Associates" LLC.

So then I ask this idiot, if its a "completely different company", please explain to me how it is that you have a record of my daughters phone number being removed on 7-31-13?????  IDIOT!!!!!.  She then began back peddling and finished the call by rudely saying " I don't know how many different ways I can tell you that the number has been removed okay? this conversation is over, good bye" and then hung up on me.

BRAVO you PRA [***]. Hopefully my issue is resolved. But if not, I at least feel better knowing that I pissed off at least 3 other people this morning with this incompetent, shady, scumbag piece of s*** company  :)  and if anyone is wondering where else they can call, to complain to the lovely lady I had the pleasure of pissing off, their number is 757-519-9300.

Now that I'm no longer hungry, due to all the [***] chewing I just did, I am going to continue my morning... How was your Thursday morning?  :)

You can look up the laws for fair debt collection, and also for fair credit statute of limitations at http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/sol-by-state.html  That has a link you can click to get an attorney to represent you (your daughter) where you can sue them and have them pay you up to $1,000 for their shoddy business practices. No, I am not a sales rep, but yes, I have sued Portfolio Recovery before and won against them. They are no longer allowed to call me about a debt they say I accrued over 20 years ago. I think that card should be old enough to vote by now and they can probably squeeze their money out of the plastic.

Best of luck! If nothing else, report them to your own State Attorney General's office. Many states have laws governing the type of behavior these people display, especially with harassing a minor's cell phone. Wouldn't you like to turn the tables on these people and make them pay?
