- DTJust got a call from this number. No one on the line. Called it back and it's not a valid phone number...?
- Dan replies to BI just got the same thing. That number called my cell twice this morning and no answer. Can't call the number back. Anyone know who this is or what it about?
- Dave replies to BGot the same thing - it's a utilities company calling about switching service. Ugh.
- ICThese guys appear to be related to Duquesne Light somehow. Immediately after changing my phone number with Duquesne, the calls began and will not stop. Sent an email to consumer@paoca.org the office of the consumer advocate of PA filing a complaint. Also contacted Duquesne Light to file a complaint on their site. If you suspect DL is the culprit, as I do, you may want to do the same.
- PersonAgreed - also a Duquesne Light customer and am having the same issue with the same number.
- Caller: Duquesne Light
- kpI'm a duquesne light customer as well. The lady gave some speech about reducing rates and then stated all she had to do was verify some information and I would start saving on my next meter reading. I told her it's something I would want to look into first and asked for her name and number to call her back at a more convenient time after doing so. She immediately hung up.
- KateIt's not actually DL - I've had this happen with another scum company. They call saying they are somehow connected to the major electric company but are not. Not sure if it's an actual company trying to get customers or a complete scam.
- JakeHad a call from this number 5 minutes ago. No one answered.
- Caller: unknown
- stikethey called and hung up. no answer. I am a Duquesne Light company and some one has been bugging me weekly about switching phone companies.
- AmandaI got a call to and as soon as I answered they hung up.
- DudeI have received a few random calls from this number over the last few weeks, one of them just a few minutes ago. Same thing, no one is there when I answer. I tried calling back, and it says that it's not a valid number. I am also a Duquense Light customer...
I have received a few calls from some people claiming that I can save money on my electric bill because of some new PA state law that grants a rebate on electricity. I have always erred on the side of caution, and tell them I'm not interested, then hang up. However, my girlfriend answered once and they are telling her I'm crazy not to sign up and get this "free money". I find it sad that I'm so jaded by marketing BS that I'm afraid to even find out if this is true... :( Doing a little digging on the web, I can't find any references to such a program, so its probably BS.
Hope this helps someone...- Caller: ???
- JustinI got a call from this number the other day, asking to speak to the person in charge of the Duquesne Light bill. Having received numerous calls from companies trying to switch providers to "save 15% on my power bill," I replied "I'm not interested." The gentleman on the other end replied "How do you know you're not interested if you haven't even heard what I have to say, you F@$%ing...." and then hung up. I called back, it also told me it was an invalid number. I would like to know what company is swearing at me over the phone.
- BrentJust got a call, but they hung up. I too am a Duquesne Light Customer.
- Bojangles| 1 replyGot two calls from them today. No one answered. I am also a Duquesne Light Customer.
- lary replies to BojanglesSame sort of deal here. The woman on the other end called be my name (CREEPY) and said she heard I don't have an electric supplier. I informed her I do have electric but I have no control over it since I live in an apartment. She asked who the supplier was and I refused to answer (I use DL). I hung up.
I think the most worrisome part is that the caller knew my first name. - JasonSame as everyone else, "Are you in charge of the Duquesne Light bill?" Then they went from a script about saving money. I said I'm not interested, they continued to press me about it. I told them this was my cell phone and I don't care if I save $1000/month. I'd rather live in a gutter than buy anything that someone is selling who calls my cell phone. Then they just hung up. I'm like to find this person and beat the **** out of them for hanging up on me.
- JSame situation. An alternate electric supplier with a boring script that tries to make a hard sale. After saying I'm not interested they keep pushing...and pushing...and pushing...and when I asked to be put on the no call list they hung up on me. What an ethical company. When they call I always listen--that way I can waste their time and energy explaining it though I know I'll not be using it anyway!
- Call type: Telemarketer
- CustomerDL customer. Just got a call from them, I could tell someone was there and I could hear background noise as well, but they didn't answer and hung up after I said hello a few times. What would the purpose of that be?
I have gotten calls (different number) from those "alternative" energy companies. They are rude and pushy and I finally got them to stop calling but I don't remember how. Maybe I told them I don't have an electric bill anymore... but the calls stopped. Their pitch is very deceptive; they are not up front about who they are and refuse to send the details through the mail. - JASThis is not Duquesne Light but rather a third party retail electric provider. They provide rates on electricity that is still supplied by your utility (and if you sign up with one, you may still receive a bill from the utility for transmission and distribution charges, in addition to whatever they're offering you.)
I received a call on my cell phone from this number while I was at work. The woman told me that she was from Duquesne Light and that they were overbilling me and I was due a refund. Then she said that I was due for a rate reduction and she just needed information from me.
My response: "Are you talking about a refund or a fixed rate on my service? Also, are you from Duquesne Light or a retail electric provider?"
She told me that she was from "the" electricity supplier.
My response: "No, I actually know what that is and I want to know: are you saying you work for Duquesne Light? You see, I work for an electric provider at <my company's name.>"
As soon as I said my company's name, she hung up instantly.
If you get a call from these people, make sure that they are presenting themselves honestly. If they are not, it's called customer slamming, they are trying to use high pressure or deceptive tactics to get you to agree to a contract with them, and this comes with stiff penalties in most deregulated markets where retail electric providers can operate. Contact your state's public utility commission and file a complaint.- Call type: Telemarketer
