Rcvd call this evening from this new unverified number by Portfolio Recovery Associates located in Norfolk VA., using a mis-leading number assigned to Pittsburgh PA. Unable to confirm any physical location for this company in PA.  I block all unidentified numbers or any unwanted number from ringing my private number. I have no outstanding debt, but this debt collection company continues to call using a illega robo dialer trying to locate bad debt.  I also file complaints with the FTC and FCC for this illegal act of using a robo dialer providing mis-leading information that is unconfirmed as being a valid contact number.  So they can continue to change all their numbers - I just block the area code they use from ever ringing my phone or leaving any unwanted message - All blocked calls are juct disconnected and never hear the phone ring.

They can say whatever they want to get your attention even if it is not true.  You would be surprised what these collection agencies say and do.  They are regulated or supposed to be..Portfolio Recovery calls from several different numbers... and they never leave a message, so you are supposed to guess who they are.

They have been calling me for several years.  Portfolio Recovery.  I love it, I am way beyond the statue of limitations.  I could send them a letter and then they would have to stop but I like the idea that they have to pay people to keep calling.

My suggested way to deal with them when they call, this is what I do and some of them get really aggravated.

I ask who the debt is with, when they say it is sears or verizon (who I tried to settle with originally) I ask why I would pay a company other than sears or verizon, they say they are in charge of the debt.  I let them know I never shopped with portfolio so why would I ever pay them.  They will keep insisting that they are now the owner of the debt and I tell them they should then contact verizon or sears to collect the debt.  They will continue to call but some of them really loose there cool.

Sometimes I will say to them that I am a little distracted because I am in the middle of watching a porn move so they have to excuse me if I ask them to repeat themselves.  This gets them mad.  I actually had a supervisor get on the phone telling me how rude I was, a few words into his talking to me I told him I had to go because I was about to you know what (he started screaming at me and I hung up).  LOL

I will also sometimes just say OKAY to everything they say as if I am a recording that is stuck on the work OKAY.

I moved and got a new phone number, they were on it within 24 hours and started calling.  Thing is I didn't want the phone number, it was required with my cable plan.  I hooked it up to my fax machine and set it to auto pickup.

I am so busy at work otherwise I would love to start talking with them, my wife and my friends would laugh so hard when they would hear me talking to them.

If you answer the phone, play with them let them get nasty, if you keep your cool they get more and more aggravated.

Good luck and keep your cool.

They have not complied with bankruptcy law. Seeking legal counsel on harassment.

    UNFAIR OR IMPROPER BUSINESS PRACTICES

    Examples:

Those contacting debtors not making clear who they are, who they work for, what their role is and the purpose of the contact

Contacting debtors at unreasonable times and/or at unreasonable intervals.
It is unfair to communicate with debtors, or their representatives, in whatever form, in an unclear, inaccurate or misleading manner.

Failing to provide debtors or their appointed representatives with information on the status of debts

Failing to take appropriate steps with a view to ensuring that available data/information to inform the pursuit and recovery of a debt is accurate and adequate, such that the debtor and the (amount of the) debt can be correctly identified from that data/information failure to do so may result in:
    • the wrong person being pursued for a debt, or
    • a person being pursued for a debt that does not exist, or
    • a person being pursued for an incorrect amount.

Requiring an individual to establish that he is not the actual debtor by producing his driving licence or passport, or by providing a copy of his signature. Requiring an individual to prove he is not the actual debtor who owes an outstanding debt.

Ignoring and/or disregarding claims that debts have been settled or are disputed and continuing to make demands for payment without providing clear justification and/or evidence as to why the claims are not valid.

Portfolio recovery has to many phone numbers to keep track.
I have metro block it and portfolio recovery always manage to call me from a new number that I'm unable to block.
Once I tried in good faith to come to make payment arrangements since all of the sudden they were taking over more than 4 outstanding accounts but after updating my current employment status Indian guy just became demanding and wouldn't work anything with me. I felt betrayed that after giving them all the info they required I only received a Civil Law Suit.

I get calls from this outfit using various phone numbers.  Since I have not even paid a bill late in the last 45 years  or so I do not appreciate their ignorance.  So since I have the ability to forward calls by incoming number I forward their calls to another one from Portfolio.  I know it means nothing in the long run but it makes me happy.

What we need to do is turn this company in. They have no right lying about who they are and harassing you 50 times a day. Does anyone know where I could report this company? I would like to shut the [***] down.
