- Leroy| 2 repliesGot a call from 412-888-1000 caller Id himself from bluezonecall ???? and left this number for me to return his call (412-888-3059). ID himself as John a registered nurse, Wanted to talk to me about bluezone call service. Did not and will not call. There must be some connection to me as the number he called on is never given out to anyone except my son and he knows to never give it out. And yes, he is old enough to know better.
- Caller: Blue Zone Calling Service
- Call type: Telemarketer
- CassieS replies to LeroyHi, He was calling from Blues On Call. It is a service provided by blue cross/blue shield/highmark. They are nurses and health advisers. If you have blue cross or a division thereof and have been to a doctor in the last few months or had a new or changed prescription, then that is why they called. I personally find them pretty useless and sort of pushy, but they mean well. There is no harm in calling them back, they aren't trying to sell you anything. But you don't have to (of course).
- bobbieI absolutely hate these calls. They are very intrusive and unwanted. I have enough intelligence to ask questions if I deem it necessary. Why should we be harassed with calls that we do not want in the first place, even tho they claim to be concerned about who ever they call. I have been on the DO NOT CALL LIST for several years, but to no avail I still get unwanted calls.

- Jo| 1 replyDitched the call, then looked up the number. Just had a doctor's visit at Med Express, but I don't have Blue Cross, I have Gateway so how would they have my number?
- Randy replies to LeroyI get them also. I also have a # that is never given out and they call me on it. Here's why: I have BCBS health insurance. My wife made the mistake of calling them on this number and they captured it. You or someone in your home called them on your private #.

- BonnieKeeps calling our Physician's Practice. No name or company calling from given.
- TS replies to JoWent to the pharmacy to get a prescription and I have highmark wholecare, but they said it’s in their system as gateway (though it says highmark on the insurance card) so I guess the same at least as far as prescriptions go
- TS in PA| 6 repliesGot a call from Highmark

- JackReacher replies to TS in PA| 5 repliesObviously not. You don't know what insurance you have and there would have been no reason for them to call you simply because you "went to a pharmacy" It is a shame people like you exist trying to scam people out of their life savings.
- Pudge replies to JackReacher| 4 repliesCall back does indeed get Highmark Health Provider. Highmark acquired sole ownership of Gateway Medical back in 2021. It's also not unusual for a provider to contact a client about a prescription after filling or refilling at a pharmacy.

In all the years that I have had medical insurance both regular and Medicare Advantage I have never, ever had someone call me up after filling or refilling a prescription. There would be no reason for them to do that. But in any case there would be no reason to look up a phone number when you know who called you and why they called you.Quote:It's also not unusual for a provider to contact a client about a prescription after filling or refilling at a pharmacy. - Pudge replies to JackReacher| 2 repliesUpdate: I spoke with a rep at Highmark and she told me there are a number of reasons why they might contact a subscriber with regard to a prescription or refill including but not limited to information about changes to their formulary that might no longer include that particular prescription, availability of generic alternatives, changes in copay or coverage. I have encountered this with my own provider when my pharmacy informed me that a prescription was not covered. After 4 transfers (one of which sent me to Blue Cross Blue Shield which Highmark was also trying to acquire and may have done so by now) I got a manager who said calls might come through a call center. He also suggested that members call the number on their card if they are concerned about the call. As to why someone would look up the number, I have done that myself whenever I have encountered questions about a number or to provide information that I have learned. Of course it is possible that someone is spoofing the call center number but that seems unlikely in this case.
- JackReacher replies to Pudge| 1 replyHighmark has always been a Blue Shield Blue Cross company ever since they split from Capital Blue Cross Blue Shield. As I said in all the years I have had insurance and a lot of those were BCBS companies no one has ever called me about a new prescription or a refill. They have on occasion suggested cheaper drugs in their EOB's but that is the extent of it. I don't put up "it is legitimate" posts anymore simply because I cannot guarantee that the call is not going to be spoofed. Much better to not say anything than to have someone believe the call is OK and then get scammed.
- Pudge replies to JackReacherI agree, at least partially. No, I never put up "it's legitimate" statements, merely my experience with a number. That, I believe, is in keeping with the "user generated" goals of this site. There must be a balance between skepticism and fear. While it is important to be cautious, it is also prudent to investigate further. If one post suggests it is SPAM, ignoring solely on the basis of that label may cause one to miss important information; of particular concern when it is a health care issue. TS merely pointed out that there was a discrepancy between what was on his members card and the information in "the system." TS in PA stated he received a call from Highmark. Perhaps they are the same person, perhaps not. Investigation took me on a circuitous rout which eventually told me that Highmark does make calls to members using this call center number and a manager suggested that users, if in doubt, call the number on their member card. But to completely dismiss the call based on one report of SPAM or to conclude that a user is nefarious in his/her post is not prudent. Numbers can be spoofed, legitimate agencies may have their numbers labeled SPAM, someone may be trying to scam you, someone may be trying to reach you with important information. Users reporting their experience is information. How one utilizes that information is up to them.
