Report a phone call from 415-251-4089 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- Sarah| 10 repliesThey called my cell phone and left a message for my husband claiming to be the IRS. They said that they need him or his attorney of record to contact Daniel Martin of the IRS in Portland and "don't try to disregard this message".
First of all....my phone # is not on our tax records, my hubby's primary phone is (he always answers, i let things go to voicemail)
Second...this call came from San Francisco, not the Portland, OR area
Third...why would the IRS be calling before they tried reaching me by mail? They wouldn't.
This is a Scam! A small amount of research confirmed it and we have reported them. I encourage you to do the same thing if you get a call from this company. - zlee| 1 replyI got a call today, very heavy accent, looks like it is from an Indian lady. Please be careful, DON'T REPLY THE CALL, it is a SCAM.
- Mary| 1 replyGot a call from this number, the guy left a message saying he was from the IRS.
He said that they need me or my attorney of record to contact David Jackson of the IRS in Portland and "don't try to disregard this message I called back and a women answered "Hello". Really the IRS doesn't answer "Hello". I told her I was returning a call and needed to get information regarding the message left on my voice mail. She then hung up the phone.
I called back and someone answered she said she was Senior Investigator for the IRS, Michelle Brown. I told her I got a call from this number. She asked what my phone number was and I gave it to her. She then proceeded to say the call was regarding the IRS Debt I had. I told her I didn't know what she was talking about, her response was "So you're not aware that you owe the IRS for back taxes? I said I don't know what you're talking about. She said, "OK, I'll make a note of that, Thank you"
By this time I got very suspicious and called back. There was No answer. I called again and now James Anderson answered I told him I had just called and gave him the phone number they had in file. He told me his notes said I had just resolved the issue with Michelle Brown. I told him I didn't know what this is about. He said it was about the bad taxes I owed and that a warrant for my arrest was issued for the next 2-3 hours. I told him that was impossible because I didn't owe any taxes and the I felt this was a scam. I also asked what he wanted from me and his response was that he just wanted to be my friend. Really! This people sound from India or another third world country trying to intimidate and take peoples money. I hung up and looked up the number they called from to find a lot of scam reports mostly from today. Please don't call them back, I'm pretty sure they just want money.- Caller: 415-251-4089
- Arizona resident replies to MaryI also got a message today just a few minutes ago! Same scenario indian accent man claiming to be from irs. First of all, i pay my tax ao it was a surprise to hear that message. But major mistake, he had my name wrong! He interchanged my 2 worded last name. That is basic information from a legal document that they should know. I commonly get this when its from mailers phishing info. Dont give any personal info!!! - Mitch CSame experience with many folks here - first some "Cooper" guy then "James Anderson" faking to be IRS investigators. I asked them what year was the back tax for and they said "last 5 years". When I pushed for specifics and they got annoyed. They said they will send the police over to arrest me. I knew something is wrong, so I asked them what is the name of the IRS Commissioner, and they went "ah, ah..." and hung up. Try to call back and yell at them and got the busy signal and then it said the mailbox was full. Stupid scammers!!!
- SMEI had the same experience also; first it was "Robert Ganzel" leaving the same message, and then I spoke to "John Davis" and "Michelle Brown." I know many non-European Americans may Westernize their names, but all three of the people had such names with heavy East Indian accents. This is what made me most suspicious.
- Chris NoffsingerDavid Jackson, sounded Indian, said the were going to seize all my property and arrest me.
Called 3 times I finally answered once.- Caller: Said they were Were IRS lol
- Call type: Telemarketer
- SME replies to PardeseeI've thought about this too. i think that it is an overseas racket using some local number through a company like Vonage or something, which allows you to make and receive calls through the internet using a local US number. The Government may not be able to get to the people doing this? At the same time, they may be working on it but we don't know. They could probably have the number disconnected, but the scammers will take another one in a minute. The way I confirmed this was a scam was by entering into google "IRS (415) 251-4089" and found all of your posts. Perhaps that is the best that the Government can do when calls are originated overseas. It is a real shame though bc as you said, they are doing this in the name of our government.
For my own part, I did call back after figuring it out, and went on with the act just to keep them on the phone for a while thinking they had someone. and then calmly had a conversation about how sad it is for them not to be able to know the beauty of looking into someone's face and experiencing trust and a clear conscience. They really may not care, and I can't say if there is heaven or hell, but I definitely feel better knowing I am living an honest life, and I wish this for all of you too. - vickie replies to Sarahi received a similar call today sounded like an asian man saying i owe money to the irs and they were putting a warrent out for my arrest and having my drivers license suspended. Thay asked for me under my maiden name and i have been married for over 5 years now but my maiden name still appears in the phone book wondering if they are just searching for names and calling them. My husband called them back and told them they have been reported to the irs and better business bureau they then hung up on him.I feel sorry for the people who fall for this scam. When i looked up the number it listed as ignacica california.

When I called, the woman answering the phone with (IRS Investigations) was rude and when I said "You can't be rude when you are the IRS", she said F--- You and hung up. That told me it was definitely not the IRS and yes with checking out the number, it definitely is a scam.

- Jean| 1 replyTwo calls today. 4/15/14. Same as folks above. Unintelligible, heavily accented voice. I wouldn't pinpoint it as Indian but it's some kind of accent that is very difficult to understand. Caller ID said it was from Novato but it's a 415 # which is SF.
- Caller: Claims to be from IRS
