why is the IRS calling me and threatening further action???

Do not answer this. This is a scam. I know because i havent owed taxes since 1999 when i became disabled and could no longer work! Besides the IRS will always attempt to mail you a letter before contacting you via phone. Also upon calling this number back....it rings and rings and rings and finally picks up and in a foreign accent says this person is not available please leave a message. If you were really calling the IRS there would be a message instructing you on which numbers to press to get to the right department.

Just got a call from this number. Didn't recognize the number/area code, didn't answer. No message left.

Got a call from this number threatening further action. When I called back the phone rang and rang until I finally hung up. The number called again a few hours later and I got the same automated message. When I called back this time the line was busy. Really?? Just to make sure I got this right, the IRS calls and when you answer the phone, there's an automated message advising you to call the same number that called you, then when you call the number, there's not even an automated greeting identifying the "agency"? Nice try!!!
