It is sinister, since they call constantly. And Saturdays also. They never get the "hint".

I was called from this number today and asked how old I am ...I was asked for a date. Someone uses this number for wrongful reasons. I am a mom with two youngsters. Sick people!

I just received a call from this number stating 'I am calling from Ryerson, I have an invoice to pay you for your Samsung phone, but unless you give me information about you, starting with your complete name, I will not pay out this invoice'.  I said,  I do not work nor study at Ryerson, I do not have any associations with Ryerson, therefore, I am not releasing any personal details to you.  I asked 'who are you and where do you work?', the answer was 'I am calling from Ryerson', but that did not answer my question, so I just ended the call.  This is definitely a scam, they are using Ryerson's telephone for the wrong reasons.  Be Careful.

It's not Ryerson University but actually a hidden/spoofed number that pretends to be Ryerson's number.

Some kid on the other end swearing at me and laughing.

My proven way to stop these calls......

Answer, speak immediately so the computer will transfer to a live person. Then have fun with it, tell them you are so interested, but keep saying you are doing things, like answering doorbell, getting pen and paper, getting credit card.

The more you can waste that live person's time (and wages) will get you off call lists faster than any "do not call" list. I do this, and they never call again, and I have rarely been getting new calls.

Hit them where it hurts, the wallet.

If a nice percentage of people did this, all telemarketing would probably stop...

And please feel free to pass all of this along whenever you post comments on other numbers...

BTW: the best I've been able to do is keep them on the line for 11 minutes, but with only coming back to the phone for 15 seconds at a time, three times. So my 45 seconds cost them 11 minutes of wages.

This number has called our house on a daily basis for the past six months (weekends included). None of my children attend Ryerson University and I have launched a formal investigation into whoever is behind spoofing this number. If this person is harassing you, do what I have done and report them.

I suggest this is in fact Ryerson, although I believe also subject to abuse by students etc.

This number just called and while I was looking it up here on this site, my teenager answered. I asked them who they were talking to and it was their friend, calling from Ryerson.

Look folks, here's the set-up i have that has reduced my telephone grief dramatically. You know do-not-call lists are ineffective, but here's the next best approach and doesn't rely on outside aid. Go buy a Hiro USB 56K modem from TigerDirect = $30. Then go get for free, a program called PhoneTray for your PC. Plug your phone-jack into the USB modem, run software. Set it to answer on one ring to preempt your answering service. The software is infinitely user-definable. Block 800/888, entire area codes (California etc for example) Block all calls starting with EG: 979, etc etc. Build your list as you get the calls.  Auto hang-up, play pre-defined 'put me on your do-not-call' list voice messages - whatever you want. It's all there. Works with Bell, VOIP etc. All you need is call display which you likely have anyway. "Private Numbers" can be handled how you define them.

    Easy. Effective.

This one came through for me as "tim Horton's" with all the background noise could have been the one on campus by the parking lot. Either way they are not too bright asked me if I was a ryerson alum. Then asked for a donation.
