It is best to not even answer any call from an unrecognized number.  If it is important, someone will  leave a message or call back.

The simple fact that you answered the call lets the sender know that it is a valid number and they sell it.  They do not even have to be selling a valid product.  If you press any key, then they know it is a valid number and if you say anything, especially if it is offensive, then you guarantee that your number will be sold.

About 5 months ago, I stopped answering calls from unknown numbers and I have seen a distinct decrease in all calls even valid commercial ones.  I used to receive about 2 - 3 calls a day and now it is down to about 1 a week.

Records are being kept that increase the validity of your number being active based on the number of times you have answered these phishing calls.  Those numbers with the highest connect rate net the most profit for the phishers and are highly prized for the commercial industry.

To stop the calls, DON'T  ANSWER THEM!

This number keeps calling me all the time but no message is left.

I rec'd a call and person asked if anyone in our home has arthritis.  Told her no as it's not her business,

Call the number back.  They give you two options:
Press 1 and take the survey
Press 2 and be taken off of their call list.

That's what I did.

You are absolutely right.  I do the same thing and seldom get solicitation calls.

These are all scammers.  The Caller ID and the Number that appears are Spoofed - they are not real.  Don't answer if you don't recognize someone you know.  If you do, you get on a list of valid numbers.  Of course there are hundreds of these idiots and they could care less about Do Not Call.  One way or another they want to get your personal information for identity theft or drain you credit or bank accounts.  They don't care about legal threats either since they are all based overseas.

Call -- don't pick up -- two beeps on my voice mail and they're gone. Have no idea what they want with me, but it's obviously not legit under the DNC list rules. Wish I could get my call records; my phone co. doesn't work that way. Wish I could sue the pants off 'em, but life doesn't work that way either.

BTW, guys -- NEVER "press two" or do anything else to be "taken off" a telemarketer's list. You do realize, don't you that they can then sell your number to everybody and his brother as a viable, live prospect AND keep on calling you anyway? All you do by contacting them in any way is make things worse for yourself.
