I answered the call from this number and it is someone trying to scam you saying they are from Microsoft and they are getting error messages from my area.  I hung up as an acquaintance got the same call a couple months ago and they screwed up her computer then asked for a credit card number.  She hung up when they asked for that.  It took quite a while to get her computer sorted and back up and running including a reformat that caused the loss of a lot of important information.

I have received two calls today from this number and did not answer either of them. That is a Bellevue Wa. area code but there is no listing with it. Curious to hear from others what they have experienced and who these people are who are calling.

Just got the same call.  He said that winows was running slow.  I said not mine. Click!  Having a Bellevue, WA ID just may fool some people since Microsoft is located in the area.

A man with an Indian accent called, said there was a problem with my computer. He asked if I was the owner of the computer and I hung up. I called the number back and there was an automated message indicating this was a "phishing" scam.

I got a call from them just now.  My wife took the call, and passed it off to me.  Indian accent.  Saying that she was from some computer maintanence tech support place and my computer was sending them info that I was having some error messages and all that.  I told her I wasn't getting error messages.  She persisted.  I like f***ing with people like this, so I decided to play along.  hit the Windows Menu + R button to open the RUN window as instructed.  Before I did that, though, I disconnected from the web.  She told me to enter CMD and enter, to bring up the command prompt which I did.  Then told me to enter ASSOC and press enter, which I did.  Lots of s**t went scrolling up the screen.  She told me when it stopped that the third line up contained a unique identifier for the computer. She rattled it off to me, and it matched.  I went in to my desktop computer and did the same thing.  Had the same "unique" identifier.  THen I knew it was a scam.  Started giving her all kinds of s**t.  THen she got a "supervisor" on the phone, and he told me I was lying cause they couldn't be the same.  HE eventually hung up on me.  Total of their time I wasted was 15:48.  GOod s**t.  I love wasting these f***er's time.

I also then called the number back and it was a recording from the Federal Trade Commission(FTC) saying this was a phishing scam.

Called me as well with similar patter mentioned above. I told them I was running Linux Ubuntu 11.10 (another operating system), the guy said this is your Windows PC? I said yes, he asked what version of Windows are you running, I told him Ubuntu 11.10, he said this is your Windows PC? (etc, etc, etc...)

    Such helpful tech support. :-)

Gee they're now even outsourcing the scam artists!

    Annoyed with these Calls!
Have had the same thing happen to me twice. They asked for Mrs. insert father's name and told her she had malicious software on her computer. Which would be difficult considering she has never owned a computer. The second time in the week they called and said they were from the service center on my computer was infected. When I asked what service company "Paul" represented ans where they were located he hung up. So I went on the microsoft website and here is what they say:

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/online-privacy/avoid-phone-scams.aspx

    Will Microsoft ever call me?

There are some cases where Microsoft will work with your Internet service provider and call you to fix a malware-infected computer—such as during the recent cleanup effort begun in our botnet takedown actions. These calls will be made by someone with whom you can verify you already are a customer. You will never receive a legitimate call from Microsoft or our partners to charge you for computer fixes.

Rec'd a call today to my cell phone,  identified as a Microsoft tech center and that my computer was in danger of crashing and that I needed to renew my spyware and virus protection. Also gained access into my computer and wanted payment for renewal, Showed a whole list of problems.  ,  changed the screen and there was a payment.  Realized that this just didn't seem right and hung up. Very dangerous situation all the way around.

These people are known for installing malware on your computer. I would try downloading the free Malware Bytes program and running a scan to make sure nothing was installed. It will isolate viruses and trojans so you can remove them. That's what Verizon did for me when I had the same problem though it came from a different source.
    Hope this helps.

Received a call from this # just 10 min. ago from a guy with heavy India accent and said he was from Microsoft (at least that is what I thought he said). I keep interupting him to try and see if he knew who he was trying to reach because this was my cell phone with my company's main number being forwarded to me. He was getting very frustrated with my constant questions and kept trying to start his spiel over several times. I finally told him that if he could not tell me who he trying to reach that I was just going to hang up. Since he could I told him goodbye and hung up.

Received call from heavily accented male.  Says he's from Microsoft and they received notice that there is a virus uploaded on my computer and it's about to crash.  I knew it was a scam of some sort. They asked if I owned the computer?  I asked if they knew the computer was about to crash, how come they didn't know who owned it?  I then stated that I don't own a computer and he told me to say "Merry Christmas" three times.  Yes, that's right, he wanted me to repeat "Merry Christmas" three times.  What the heck??  Stupid scams.

We have now had 8 calls from these people today! Is this a record? Thus far I have been myself, The Sheriffs Department and "Bluebottle" from an english radio programme called The Goon Show. I have also been a Russian immigrant and a gruff Londoner. My wife just screamed at them! This is such fun.........

Just received this call. Heavy accented Hindi male saying my computer was downloading malicious software and I needed to turn it on and he could show me how to stop it. Ok, I'm a network engineer and have been doing this for awhile, but come on if my computer IS downloading wouldn't that mean it's currently running? Knew it was a scam right away, but wanted to screw with him so I asked a few questions of my own. What's my IP address, What OS do I run? What type of computer I had? etc. etc. Stuff I know these reports give out. No real straight answer and he kept insisting me to get on my computer, AND was starting to yell at me. I finally had enough and wasn't going to be yelled at by a scam artist. I told him the gig was up and I noted his number and will be reporting it. He started yelling even more and I just hung up on him.
