- Cammie Tucker| 2 repliesHe side he was Microsoft and want to sell me a service, Any body know about this?
- ThinkAboutIt replies to Cammie TuckerFrom what I've read on these posts, Microsoft doesn't cold-call people-it would be a violation of their privacy policy. The person who called you is a scam artist. They try to fool people into thinking that their PC has gotten a virus, and they do a screen-share to supposedly take them out but what they're really doing is installing them, to gain access to their personal information, including passwords and bank accounts. They also try to charge for the virus "removal".
I would suggest blocking the calls, because these people can be total pests. Also report them to the FTC and www.IC3.gov . - Dpoggthey did it to my wife Saturday and said they would call back Monday as their sever crashed. What to do now?
- Caller: Microsoft
- LM| 1 replyI received a call about this very thing today. I was addressed by name and told that microsoft was detecting a malicious program operating through my computer without my knowledge. The fact that my caller ID noted the caller as "Unknown Caller' was and immediate red flag to me. The call had a lot of interference as if it were being placed from overseas. I asked the man for his name and phone number. He said his name was Mark and he gave his number as 432-360-4563. I did not give him any information, not did I give him remote access to my computer.
After I got off the phone I started searching for Mircrosoft phone scams and found a link on the Microsoft website concerning this scam.

These scammers are after access to your financial information, via access to your computer, so they can steal from your bank and credit card accounts. Average loss to people in the USA has been between $800.00 - $900.00. If I get another call from these thieves I will be ready for them and they will be sorry they ever thought to call me!!- Caller: Microsoft (supposedly)

In the meantime I have reported them to the Internet Crime complaint Center. - MCJ replies to LMI just backtracked the call and it was not connected to Microsoft at all, The guy claimed to be in the technical department for Microsoft and sounded like he was straight out of a call center in India. What a big scam....
- Shelley PogueThis is a phishing scam to access your personal information report this to your local police department as a cyber crime. Microsoft does not contact anyone directly. It is a violation of their company policy.

- CiaraThis is [***] they just called me from a unavailable number and he said that he was with Microsoft and that my computer is infected with a virus and it will shut down at any given time. He said to fix this problem go to something on the computer. I didn't go to [***] because its obviously a scam. I asked him what number he's calling from and looked this up. I cussed him out and told him its a scam. I told him I'm getting in touch with the police. So I called and acted like the police, and asked what is this company? He said a [***] hospital. Really? How stupid could this [***] be?
