I received a call from this # and called it back and it was a recording from Mercedes Benz stating "thank you, we are in the process of updating our records and this confirms your number is current". Apparently it can identify your number even if its blocked.

Caller ID said EverifyServices - Person asked if I was the person in my company who maintained the E-Verify System. I said I was. The lady then started asking questions like how many people are in your company. I said I don't give out business information over the phone to people I don't know. She said she had been hired by the Department of Security, but was not a government employee. She then just hung up.

They called and said they were "with the Department of Homeland Security".  I am a PI and tracked the number to: http://www.convergys.com/.  They are a marketing company.  Pretext calling as the Department of Homeland Security illegal.  Hang up immediately.

The E-Verify system is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and is working to stop unauthorized employment.  By using E-Verify to determine the employment eligibility of their employees, companies become part of the solution in addressing this problem.
The calls are on behalf of Homeland Security to check on businesses that have already signed up for E-Verify in the states that require compliance, like Arizona, Missouri and Mississippi.  They ask whether you are still doing business in the state and if you expect to hire additional employees.
    It's a legitimate program.

Based on the above messages, they are not behaving in a legitimate or professional manner.
Also just because a legitimate organization exists, somewhere, doesn't mean the people calling you are legitimate.

Called on Saturday at 2:30pm claiming to be with Homeland Security verifying E-Verify information. I didn't give her a chance to tell me more - I hung up. If the government wants information on a company, they can use their bankrupt postal service to show a bit more legitimacy than a phone call on a Saturday afternoon to a personal cell phone.

Be very careful on who you give information to.  Just because they say they are calling on behalf of Homeland Security doesn't mean that they are legitimate.  I deal with call like this on a regular basis.  When the young man that called me said he was calling on behalf of Homeland Security, I asked him more than three times what company he was with.  Everytime I asked him he deflected my question by saying I could check it out on the E-Verify site.  I believe on the 4th time he gave me his company's name...Convergys.  It was clear he did not want to give me the company name.  I told him I would check his company and phone number out before I gave him any information.  Supposably he will call back on Monday, but I rather doubt that he will.
