The call is from Portfolio Recovery Associates.  They have over 50 phone numbers.  If you don't recognize the area code......its probably Portfolio Recovery Ass.

They are dirty scam artists

This company calls multiple times a day to collect a debt that is NOT ours. They've been told this, but refuse to stop calling & refuse to send any sort of letter about the debt. They sure want our personal info though (SSN, additional phone numbers, date of birth). These people are incredibly rude, threatening, and unprofessional. Please report your calls to the FTC!

Also, you can fax to 757-321-2504 & say "Please remove the following number from your lists. It is not a valid number for the party you are trying to reach." They may not do it, but it's sure worth a try!

This collection agency is located in Virginia and known for buying very old worthless debt as far back as the 1990's. So you ask why are they buying debt that is over ten years old? Number one - they could send them to consumers who are convinced they need to pay it. Number two - creative accounting tactics (per Bud Hibbs). Here is the mentality of PRA: The debt is expired and legally outside the SOL. The consumer knows this and will not pay PRA. However, what if you have to pay the IRS when PRA sends the consumer a 1099C? Madness!!! Then Portfolio Recovery Associates receives a tax deduction too. Madness!!!

Technically this would not be a dunning letter which is normally sent to the consumer. If you EVER receive a 1099C from PRA or any other collection agency, contact a tax professional. Also, send PRA a VOD letter.

Asset Acceptance Corporation has been using this scheme for a long time. The "alleged" account needs to be validated regardless of what type of notice you receive. How is PRA going to send a 1099C if they are not able to validate the debt? Contact your Attorney General and report a complaint and fight back."

They called and told me that I owed a bill frim Bradenton from 2004 with US Cellular.  I lived in Illinois at that time.  What a bunch of BS.

I recieved calls from this company using two different phone numbers.I did not answer it cause I usually dont answer numbers that I dont reconize.turns out its from a company called Portfillo Recovery Assoc.They do not leave a message and when I tried calling thier number back they say they are a debt collection angency but they will not answer thier phones a recording says thier system is down.They are a scam dont answer thier calls.How they got my number I don't know and how I stop them from calling me I dont know either.There trying to colllect a debt from over 20 years ago that is no longer valid.

dont know them persons calling from the # but get many calls a day starting at 6 in the morning. when i ask who is calling they dont tell me

They keep calling me too. And I don't have any outstanding debts. They make things up.

Portfolio Recovery Service...Says they're collecting on closed account from 1997.  Past statute of limitations and never even belonged to me.  They have no information they can send you.  They purchase old debts and try to collect on them.  Here are other numbers they also call from:

Does anyone have an address or preferably fax number for Portfolio Recovery Service at this phone number location?  Long story, but they are harrassing my daughter for a bill that she does not owe.  I have looked everywhere on line and can find no contact information for them in Baltimore, Md ~ which appears to be the location of this area code/prefix.  The only number we have is the one that showed up on her id:  
443) 313~1382.  It must be the same company as the 443) 313~1380, just a different extension.
