Consumer alert: Debt reduction companies
Beware of “too good to be true offers”
Ottawa, January 10, 2012 – The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC) today issued a Consumer Alert on debt reduction companies. FCAC is warning Canadians: Be very cautious about companies that claim they can negotiate a deal with your creditors so that you will have to pay only part of your debt. This process is often called “debt reduction,” “debt settlement,” “debt relief” or “debt negotiation.”
Consumers who are looking for information on dealing with their debt will find tips on getting out of debt on FCAC's website at fcac.gc.ca
About FCAC

FCAC informs consumers about their rights and responsibilities when dealing with banks and federally regulated trust, loan and insurance companies. FCAC also makes sure that federally regulated financial institutions, payment card network operators and external complaints bodies comply with legislation and industry commitments intended to protect consumers.

- jI was receiving calls from 23456789 and blocked it now I am getting calls from 444-444-4444 both of them say "out of area" and no one is there when you pick it up. I have reported it to the FCC although I doubt they will be able to do anything, maybe if everyone who gets a call from either of these numbers files a complaint they will take notice. Just go to www.donotcall.gov and click on the "file a complaint" button. PLEASE!
- Caller: "out of area"
- karizzmatic1Got the same call from same number. Twice. Some man with a heavy accent asked to speak to someone. Lol wasn't my name and I didn't offer the correct pronunciation either. Called back hoping to get name of company or something but phone just rings and when it is picked up the line is silent. Kinda creepy.
