I know it's a scam number but interested to know more
From someone allegedly lost their passport and asks 'friends' for money to replace it and says she'll repay them when she gets home

Got an email from a known person saying they were on a trip to UK and lost passport and needs funds for a ticket. He stated he will repay me later and gave me this number as the hotel number to where he's at. I hardly know this person so it seems that they hacked his email and used his contacts to send the email. This is a scam.

My email was one that was hacked into and they sent the "I'm stuck in the UK" email to my entire contact list and wiped out the list so I can't warn my friends.  These people are despicable.  It feels just like when you are robbed or your house is broken into.

My boyfriend's gmail account was hacked into over the weekend.  They scammer wiped his whole account clean - no more contacts and no more emails (sent, inbox, NONE).  Note is below:

It’s me, Nicholas. I really don't mean to inconvenience you right now, I made a little trip to UK and I misplaced my luggage that contains my passport and credit cards, I know this may sound odd, but it all happened very fast. I need to get a new passport and a ticket, but I'm short of funds to pay for my ticket and other miscellaneous expense. Please, can you lend me some funds to get a ticket? I'll be willing to pay back as soon as I get home.

Please respond as soon as you get this message, so I can forward you my details to send the funds to me, OR you can drop a message via the hotel's desk phone if you can. The numbers are, +447045733705.

    I await your response

Got it too, just now. Exactly the same thing as everyone else. I just changed my contact info and passwords. I don't have a Larry on my list that I know of... so who knows where he got my address.

Same here, hacked through facebook I think.  they also went on to any online vendor I used over the holiday and tried to use the password there too.  It worked at Walmart, since I had the same password.  Never have the same password for your gmail as you do for any other accounts.  By the way, google will let you recover your contacts.  Also, check your settings in email.  they set mine to forward all incoming mail to them  at "y"mail, and they set my reply button to go to them too.  So if anyone replied to my email, they got the reply instead of me.  Thank God my credit card company spotted the fraud before charging me $2000 at Walmart.

Got the exact same msg as above...but from my sister (supposedly).  Know it's a scam as she definitely has other resources at her disposal and would never resort to e-mail for a need.  I'm trying to get in touch with her so she can address her compromised account.  What a drag!

I'm in communication with this person right now. Taking this scam very personally right now.
I even called the desk and it sounded like a man with an African accent answered, from " the  london bridge hotel." he immediately knew the situation with my friend in question.
I didn't realize it was a scam until after I made the call
I got all the same emails as everyone else.

So I'm trying to get more info from them...
At this point the last email... The third one said:

I’m still in the embassy, just to get some verification documents. I don't want to get into more trouble with the United Kingdom immigration law that's why I have to remain in the embassy. Please can you send funds to me, so that I can clear bills over here before I end up in trouble.

I will be able to speak with you when I get back to the hotel later. Let me know if you can send the funds now.

    Thanks
    Grenetta.

    I then responded

By the way, I've found your location.
No need to send your address.
The police are on their way.
They are going to pick you up.
It's all a part of the "plan"
    Please stay put...

And i responded in another email:

What's the urgency? Just wait there.

    By the way,
You can't receive money transfers without an ID... that you lost.

I think I may have scared them. There was no response.

Hopefully enough to help build this case

Thus just happened to me two days ago. They totally need to be punished! Luckily my contacts in gmail look intact so I could warn everyone but I'm really bummed out that they deleted 7 years of my email history. So much important info. :( Now I've got to clean up the mess they left behind--changing all my info on many accounts. What jerks!

This has just happened to me too.
I too phoned the number listed in the email. African accented bloke answered the phone.
Why can't the police trace the number and get him? Surely it's not a hard thing to do?
