I am fairly sure it is a phishing email and probably the same with the phone call.  That or a pyramid bait and switch type thing.

Unknown caller on my cell phone. Asked if I was John Doe Smith, several times.  Phishing call feel to it. It is associated with several other numbers on Google. Will let all future go to voice mail.
