Robocall. Very poorly done script, delivered with a computer-generated voice with a thick accent. Message was that the IRS was filing a lawsuit after trying to reach us multiple times. Caller wanted us to call back immediately. Caller ID said Benton City WA

Caller ID:  Benton City WA. Left a voicemail message. As mentioned previously, poorly developed robocall with a heavy accent indicating that the IRS had made several failed attempts to contact and was filing a lawsuit. Left instructions to call back at number appearing on caller id.  Several legitimate news sources said this is just one of the IRS "SCAMS" to be aware of.

Same thing happened to me today.  It definitely must be a scam.  Can't believe that would be done this way by IRS

Yes I just got the same exact message too. I use to work at the IRS in New York. They would NEVERr leave a message, with no name or case reference and 99% of the time would send you numerous notices thru the mail before anything like a law suit would happen. The callers should be reported

I just got the same message on my answering machine.   IRS will file a lawsuit against me, never heard a reason why.  Not a live person but whoever made the recording spaced the phone number incorrectly so I doubt it's anyone in the U.S.  He read the number as 5095-8814-09

Call received today, 1/22/16; same recording as indicated above; I just laughed to myself and then came here to look it up.  So once these scam calls are reported, is any action taken to stop them?  Or is this just a forum to talk among ourselves about this nuisance?

If you read the "blurb" on the WhoCallsMe Homepage you will see that this is a Forum and its aims are set out.  In the UK we have various bodies to whom we can report nuisance calls (with varying degrees of success), and it is likely you will have the same.

Yep call must be circulating in Hawaii. Got the same robot message on my phone. It doesn't identify who is being called but that they have called before and a lawsuit is being filed. I called back to see if I could cuss the guy out but it had some automatic hang up thing.

I got call's in two days from (240)389-5421 and (509)588-1409.

IRS would send a letter for collection and other notices. I have never been called by IRS.

I reported fraud to: Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration::

Caller (with a thick East Indian accent) identified himself as a Windows Technician. When I challenged him for his Microsoft certification number, He read a number off quickly. I asked him his name and he identified himself as Jeff. I asked if I could call him back and he gave me the number 509-588-1409. I did call back and someone (with a thick East Indian accent) answered and said they were with Microsoft in Redmond, Washington and some illegal activity had been traced to my computer. He said he would help me fix it but what he wanted me to do was go to a web site that would give him unrestricted access to my computer. When I asked for Jeff he demanded my name and when I told him they should know because they called me first, he hung up. I can't believe law enforcement can't track this scam down (the phone number is legit) and put these scammers out of business.

They keep calling me saying they are from Microsoft security. All they want to do is link into my computer and screwed it or get information.

A company claiming to be Microsoft continues to call claiming that they're receiving notifications that our computer has been compromised. They insist that I get on my computer and work with them to secure the problem.

They have obviously decided that the IRS scam isn't working but are too lazy to change their fake telephone number.  They are now trying the Microsoft scam.  You could ask the why they have stopped the IRS scam next time they 'phone.  Obviously you are aware that Microsoft never 'phone and anyone who does 'phone saying you have computer problems is always a scammer.
