I do not owe anyone any money and in fact have a excellent credit score, yet they call day and night...they got my cell phone number from my facebook accout. Guess I will have to change my cell number (which I have had the same number for 20 years!)....these people should be arrested for harassment! - It is me.These people call every other day. Most of the new numbers give only a city name. Do not be fooled, stay off the phone. If you take there call they will call all the more.

- This Needs to Cease| 3 repliesPortfolio Recovery calls daily. They claim they are trying to collect a debt from an old JCPenney card my husband had years ago. My husband's JCPenney credit card has long ago been paid off and canceled (back in the 1990s). He hasn't had a JCPenney card that he's used since the mid-1990s. Isn't there a statute of limitation on this type of thing? Why do they harass about an old retail store credit card that's been paid off years ago and hasn't been used since?

- PissedThese guys are jackals. I really don't want to have to change my cell number but I will if I have to. Calling day and night, and I have no debts outstanding at all. Clean credit record. Someone needs to start a class action suit against them.

- bilythkid replies to Hired an Attorneytell them you are recording the phone call and to stop calling you. Say this: "I am required to inform you that I am recording this phone call. I demand that you stop calling this number immediately. Now that I have demanded that you stop calling me you are required by federal law to stop calling".
Once you tell a creditor to stop calling you the creditor is duty bound by federal law to stop calling you immediately. Credit rights laws are designed to protect the debtor more than the creditor - the laws are in your favor! - If he hears...he'll knock all day...They call me on average 3 times a day. Sometimes I just like to pick it up really quick then.....click! They are annoying as hell.

- Google UsJunk Debt Buyers - a growing slime pit
There's a thriving industry of debt buyers who purchase very old and long-neglected debts for pennies on the dollar. They tack on fees and interest, and then try to collect the entire amount for the full amount plus interest. They're junk debt buyers, and while their business isn't necessarily wrong or illegal, their practices often are. Problem is, a lot of debt buying firms are bottom-feeding scumbags who will resort to any sleazy tactic to make a buck, and have no respect for the law. Specifically the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, which they regularly abuse, taking advantage of consumers' ignorance of their rights and timidity when confronted by tough collectors. Their secret is, they purchase old, bad debts that the original creditor wrote off as un-collectable, and then pursue them years later when your credit score has come back up. See, they aren't stupid. If you're the same 420-credit score who never paid that bill for the last 10 years, they won't waste your time. But if you've gone on to purchase a home and clean up your act and you're now enjoying a 650-plus score, you're their prime target. These debtors, they (correctly) reason, are more likely to settle up these old debts now that they've achieved some financial security. Especially when the collector has illegally re-aged the account and brought the debtor's credit score crashing to earth.

- Report to FTCSOL Expired Debts
These pests buy very old junk debts for pennies on the dollar with expired statute of limitation, than use illegal harassment tactics trying to intimidate uninformed individuals to pay money for this junk debt, which is noncollectable since the statute of limitations has long expired. Never ever agree to pay ANYTHING to these law breaking rats, since by doing so you would void your statute of limitation protection. Google: "Portfolio Recovery Associates Scam" to find out more about their lawless behavior, send a letter requesting validation of debt [Google how to do so] and report them to your Attorney General, the FTC. They have many law suits pending against them. Don't fall for their scam - block their calls, or send a "cease and desist" letter [Google] or simply ignore them, or answer and sing a song or whatever. Fight these slimy roaches!! Good luck!
Block them with a call blocker - check on eBay:
* Uniden DECT1288 blocks up to 20 numbers, plus Private and Unknown, with the reject tone, without ringing the phone.
* Panasonic KX-TG106 blocks up to 30 numbers, plus all unidentified callers, with a busy tone, after the phone rings once.
* JF Teck Caller ID with Ring Controller blocks up to 70 numbers, and can be set to always allow up to 100 to ring through.- Caller: Portfolio Harassment

Do your homework, and look up the above sites to see what other people have to say about PRA (Portfolio Recovery Associates). It is very insightful, and btw Anchor receivables is the same as PRA.
