I got this call today but no message.  The area code is in Iowa.

It's Wells Fargo Home Mortgage

They say they are Wells Fargo Mortgage but they want information.  They will give your address (which is on public record).  According to them...all they have is your address - you have to supply them with information - yet they called you.  They are trying to get information - I told them I have Wells Fargos number I will call Wells Fargo.  They wanted me to call a number they had.  Said no, I have Wells Fargo number.  They said they would give me the number.  Get real - even a stupid person could tell this did not sound right.

No message. I have Wells Fargo mortgage and saw previous posts about them here, but when they call they leave a message from an actual person asking me to call back to their generic 800 number. This 5001 number only called me one time and I didn't call back. I've dealt with Wells Fargo enough to know they leave messages, or send physical mail.

I confirmed via Wells Fargo Home Mortgage at 866-234-8271 that this number is one of 10 or so numbers at the Wells Fargo Home Mortgage main office.  They are calling mostly likely about late mortgage payments as initial steps toward foreclosure.  They will record the call and use any information obtained toward the foreclosure process.  When they try to extract information one needs to state the purpose of your call to them and not get chatty unless you want help them.

Received a message today. She said she was from Wells Fargo Customer Care & Recovery Group and that she has been "personally" assigned to my case.  First red flag - She gave her first AND last name. Wells Fargo reps only give you their first name and an ID# if you ask them for it. Second red flag - If she really is "personally" assigned to my case, she would have left her extention and not just 515-324-6438.  And Iowa? All reps I speak with, I always ask their location and it's always Texas!   In addition, I already have a contact in charge of my case. Should there have been a change, he would have let me know my case was reassigned.

Yes, this number is Wells Fargo Customer Care and Recovery Unit. My mortgage is with Wells Fargo. They called me from this number a couple of days ago but I missed the call. I called them back and got a recording with the name of the man who called. I left a message but so far he hasn't called me back. I have never been late on a mortgage payment, so it would not have been about a foreclosure. Don't know why he called. I checked the website of that WF unit, and they said they deal with three things: helping customers whose property has been damaged in a natural disaster (such as a tornado), helping with insurance claims, and helping customers who are having financial hardship or may have financial problems in the near future. The last item involves help with loan modification, help with arrranging a short sale if the homeowner wants to do that, etc. Possibly WF wants to get me to do a refinancing. I had inquired about refi in the past but did not follow through.
