We're not impersonating MSU, our call center is located on campus and most of our employees are MSU students. We are the OSR Survey Research Lab. The information we're gathering information for a nationwide health study funded by the Centers for Disease control and Prevention. We do not adhere to 'do not call lists' as we are calling on behalf of the state and federal government for survey research purposes. Please see here for more information: "http://www.cdc.gov/brfss" , "http://ippsr.msu.edu"

They may not adhere to "Do Not Call Lists", but if you just call them back and politely ask that they no longer call your number then they will do so.

If you have Verizon just add them to your block list. It's free and the number is blocked for 90 days. Then add them to the block list again at that time. I have several numbers on my block list.

This number calls me repeatedly on a daily basis and if someone doesn't answer, they hang up on you without even answering it, then get a clue. They don't want to speak to you, so stop trying! I blocked them on my cell so it would just hang up on them, Mr. Numbers is great for this!!! Then they were persistent beyond a week of being hung up on, so yes I went a step further and called my provider and had them blocked so they can't even call me. Stupid is as stupid does. Don't care what you want, if I answer a call and you don't respond and or keep calling me, you will be stopped. I don't have time for stupid.

I think it would be a VERY good idea if you briefly summarized who you were, who/why you were authorized to ask these questions and what data you will be collecting when your call is answered.  I received a call on Sunday and the person, without identifying herself or her affiliation, immediately started asking questions verifying my phone number, which city I lived in, etc., with no explanation as to why she had my number and was asking the information, what the survey was in reference to, and why it was relevant.  She also did not, until I asked, explain that the survey would take 20 minutes or more.  I had visitors from out of town and was not willing to spend the time answering questions whose relevancy was never explained to me.

It's VERY, NOT COOL to be calling people (unsolicited) on their cell phones, using up their minutes on an unwanted call asking for health information. This is a violation of HIPAA and this company needs to be held accountable for that.

Here's the link to file HIPAA complaints, for anyone interested:

Got a call from this number on my cell which is a Michigan area code although I have moved.    After reading the comments, I called the number back from another line.  They DO answer as MSU Research.  Apparently, the calls based on a random phone number generator for area codes in Michigan.  Was told they have multiple studies going on at any one time so they were unable to tell me which list I was on.  Was told that I would get another call since I (a human) was not reached, and upon answering more information would be given so I could determine if I was going to participate in the study or not.
Seems legit, however I am still skeptical as to WHY the numbers are called again if no one is reached, and HOW does the system know that it isn't supposed to call again once someone does answer.  Also, with HIPPA laws how do they ensure that my number and answers are not linked together.....  I am sure there are ways, and I am still skeptical....
Think I am just going to block.

I keep getting calls from this number at least once a week. I have asked them to stop calling me since they are calling my cell phone, but I still get the calls. Frankly, it annoys me that while they supposedly don't have to adhere to the do not call rules that they will still call even after being asked outright to stop calling. I don't even live in Michigan anymore, and regardless, I don't appreciate random phone calls for surveys about my personal business.

I was called SEVEN times in three days. I asked how my number was received and asked to be removed from the list. Not taking no for an answer, the caller informed me they didn't have many numbers to call and it wouldn't take long, 'only' 20 minutes. After hanging up on the caller, I received a call back almost immediately.
Caller was persistent to get me to participate in the survey, and had to repeat myself MULTIPLE  times "no, thank you."
I understand persistence but this is ridiculous.
Next time they call; I'm yelling "GO BLUE" and hanging up.

you say you are not impersonating MSU, but according to your after hours voice announcement, you are MSU, saying "thank you for calling Michigan State University's office of such and such and so and so" ... no impersonating, simply factual, you are MSU.  And even if you weren't either way, I want my calls to stop.  had about 5 so far, asked twice to not call me anymore, if it continues i will take it to another level.  Have no idea how you even got my number, it is a cell phone, and i hope for real you are not using an automatic dialer system .... thinking of hiring an attorney and going after some of your funding lol
