Just got an offer in the mail from a company entitled DirectBuy of Albany with a Latham NY address.  They have offered a free weekend at a Marriott, $100 gas card and a $30 meal voucher for attending some kind of sales pitch.  The telephone number, (518)640-9813 was the telephone number which one needed to call to respond to the offer.

It's from Direct Buy Membership club.  They try to get you to buy a membership and sell products at dealer price.  It is not dealer price!!  Beware.  You can always do as good or better on sales.

I received the same letter as Lori : final notice verification of reservation information required. Presorted first class mail US postage paid West Palm Beach , Fl. Inside tells me that I have been awarded a new laptop and if I respond within 72 hours I will also receive a $100 restaurant gift card valid at over 80 Albany and Saratoga area restaurants. On the back of the card it states that this offer is sponsered by DirectBuy of Albany. THANK YOU SO MUCH THIS LETTER WILL FILL MY SHREDDER VERY NICELY.

My husband also got this same notification about a New Laptop/Notebook Computer and a $100 Restaurant Dining Card if we replied within 72 Hours.  We are not calling.  Thank you all for responding and notifying about this scam.

I also got one that said final notice and that I had won a free laptop and a $100 restaurant gift. I'm not going to bother. I'm so sick of stupid people marketing.

I just received the same brochure as described above - $100 restaurant gift card and the "free" Microsoft-powered notebook PC. Off to the shredder....

I respect your opinions regarding this issues but I get to work in Directbuy lately and we are the one calling and inviting  you to our showroom. And I can say that isn't a Scam. That is really true.

    W'e're just giving you the opportunity to win something with no cost. What we're offering here in Directbuy Texas and Arizona are a 3 days and 2 nights weekend getaway and a $100 Restaurant Giftcard. You'll be receiving that for SURE if you visit one of our showroom. When you come in down here in our showroom, we'll be giving you a KEY, and if that key fits on the lock located here, then you will be the next person to win the $50, 000 Home Makeover.  And the nice thing there is you don't need to buy or pay for anything to get your free gifts. You just need to tour our showroom, that is 1 hour a half, and after that, you will receive the getaway and the gift card immediately. And that's fair enough. Right?

The same folks offered me a Google touchpad tablet for free.  If its too good to be true, it probably is.  It's junk mail courtesy of DirectBuy of Albany.

I got the Google Tablet offer, too. This is a scam leading to a scam. Direct Buy itself is one of the biggest consumer swindles I've ever seen. To win these prizes, you have to go into Direct Buy for a several-hour sales pitch. Allegedly, after becoming a member, you can save a lot on home furnishings, remodeling supplies, etc. The meeting is very hard sell. You are told things like if you don't sign up for membership right then at the presentation, you will be barred from membership for 3 years. But the membership costs $5.000. You'd have to be in the market for a bunch of stuff to recoup that expense. After becoming a member, you find out your selection is very poor, limited to what they have in their warehouses.

The only place for anything from Direct Buy is your paper recycling container.

we work directly with over 700 brand name manufactures and the item in our warehouse have been purchased by members and is waiting for pick up. do you homework before you speak next time.

New twist - they now are using the Google logo in their mailings & promotions. On the mailing envelope they placed the Google logo in the upper left corner - as if the mail was from Google. That is third party use of Google's trademark and is something that requires Google's express permission!. Hope Google's lawyers jump all over them for this.
