The caller is soliciting donations for the "Associated Highway Patrolmen of Arizona." They then send you a form so you can send your donation. there is no web address on their mailed information but a google search returns AHPA.com. I couldn't find their information on the charity navigator web site.

I got the same call, allegedly from the AZ Highway Patrol Association. When I did a web search on the West Roosevelt address given on the forms sent (where I am supposed to send the charitable donation) the Brent-Wyatt Printing Company came up. Also I found an Alcoholic Information and Treatment Center at the same address (no suite number given) in Phoenix. I cannot find websites for either of these two businesses. I also cannot find any information on the Arizona Highway Patrol Association website about charitable donations or phone numbers. Therefore I conclude that the phone call is some sort of scam and I am not going to send in a donation. By the way, I did not like that the fellow soliciting donations told me they accept donations either in the $25 or $100 category. Most organizations I contribute to do not only accept two levels of donations. If this is a scam operation, I would sure like to see it investigated.

I also received this phone call and what made me think this is a scam was when I told him that I couldn't contribute right now, he said, "You don't have to contribute right now, it's in 2 weeks, so how do you know you can't contribute?" I told him that we are looking for employment so I KNOW that I can't contribute. He continued to try to argue with me about my finances. It was then I realized that the Highway Patrol wouldn't push me like that to make me contribute, so I hung up on him. I, too would like to see an investigation.

I just received a call that came up on Caller I.D. as from a Wes Brent.  He identified himself as representing the Arizona Highway Patrol Association which is seeking contributions to their cause.  I politely interrupted him by saying that we don't contribute over the phone...he replied that they are not asking for anything right now but if we give him our address they would mail the information out.  I then said that we are not in a position to give anything right now...and he rather rudely said, "Is it something I said."  I replied no we just cannot contribute right now....and he hung up on me in mid-sentence.

Gotta be a scam...as a legitimate police or fire organization would have been much more professional and would not just hang up without saying thank-you.

Received a call at my business asking for our president.  He said his name was Mr. Kusch and he was from the AZ Highway Patrol Association.  He would not say what it was regarding.  Before I relay "fishy" phone messages to our President I do research. I found this and decided that it is more than likely some type of scam or solicitation.

Wish they would just STOP already!

The call today to our business was almost identical to the prior report, including "Mr. Kusch" being coy about his business. The AHPA web site says nothing about any fund-raising campaign, so if he calls back, he will not be put through (though it'd be funny as hell to hear the CEO give him 35 minutes of advice on how to run his life, which is what he usually does with cold callers).

I received a call from 602-252-4635 Caller Id lists it as Brent Wyatt Wess

Same solicitation. i had told them i would donate, because I have a business and they where going to list it in their directory, happen to talk to someone about it and they told me it's a fraud.  Highway Patrols do not do phone solicitation. So when the fedx guy showed up I said put return to sender on it and he said no problem and sent it back. Today I received a bill in the mail from the SOB'S I am doing my research and going to find out everything I can then I am sending them back the whole envelope bill, everything with a return receipt, signature required.  Before I do that I am going to call the number on the letter and see if I can find a supervisors name so i  can address the letter to that person. Then I am going to write a "nice" letter to them with cc: my file, cc: my lawyer

These people are scam artists, so far I have found that the organization is owned by two attorneys and that they recently changed their name, I think this is bogus information because it is listed on a directory I think they just filed that with the directory so people will think they are legit because they claim to be lawyers.  I will dig deeper, next is to contact the better business bureau and the Arizona Highway Patrol itself.

I had gotten a call back from the original solicitor and he asked why I had returned the envelope I told him because I was told the Highway Patrol doesn't do phone solicitation he started to get snippety with me so I said take me off your list, Thank you and hung up.  Then he sent me the bill. I will not rest until I get to the bottom of this.

Also, since they are soliciting on behalf of the Arizona Highway Patrol Association, it is a good idea to contact the AHPA directly and complain about their rude tactics.  I emailed the AHPA and let them know that until I did some research on the phone number I was angry at the AHPA for being so rude and I also said that not everyone who receives a rude call will do research so this company could potentially be tarnishing the image of their organization.  I'm sure if the AHPA receives enough complaints they will look for a nicer company to assist them with obtaining donations.  If a rude person calls and only mentions they are collecting FOR an organization (as opposed to on behalf of) then most people will assume that they are from the organization, not from a different company.

Just got a rude call from this number.  The details are pretty much the way it is described in previous posts.  I hung up.  Based on what other's have said and researched about this organization, I am holding my donation dollars for other organizations

I am the Manager of the call center working on behalf of the AHPA, raising funds in the state of AZ for the very worthy causes the AHPA runs and supports.  We have been doing a yearly, ongoing fundraiser for years.  We make over 200,000 calls yearly. There are 8 varying levels of complaints on this site, from who are they to an actual complaint. That is far less than 1 percent of problematic experiences. While I am the first person to concede that occassionally we deal with a bad apple, as any company does, we strive to represent our client and the constituents in the state with a positive experience.  Daily, Weekly and Monthly our employees get harrassed, swore at, hung up on mid-word, called scammers, etc.  They are trained to take the high road on these instances when we, who represent a reputable charitable group that has been doing good work in this state for years, are lumped in with every "telemarketer" call they have ever received, and are automatically guilty of every offense that every bad group has ever committed upon them.
Our work has led to children getting their last wish granted, thousands upon thousands of teddy bears being delivered to hospital beds, school education seminars and programs, scholarships, and unfortunately death benefits to officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice.  We do good work in this state for a good charity.  We will continue to try to improve our business model as I am sure all business owners do, but perspective is required before we get judged by a public that is far more abusive of us than we would dare dream of being to them.

I have got 2 calles and 2 letters from these Scam artest..... Same phone number 602-278-4235. .......

I did too. I was about to actually donate and just felt something wasn't right. I told him Tuesday we can talk more Thursday, so I get a call yesterday which is Wednesday to get a credit card over the phone. No thank you. I work hard for my money. 602-278-8163 is the number that called me. I checked out the website and it has nothing to do with donations. I also asked Peter Gioco to send me another packet with the information because I never got the first one. He said he rather not because they have issues with the mail. Go figure. I wouldn't want to have you pay too much postage I guess. I ain't buying this garbage. Be careful.

I got a similar call from (602)252-4635 yesterday 12/02/13. I decided to check them out as well, the one thing to remember is the US Post Office has postal inspectors that investigate possible cases of mail fraud, FedEx and UPS doesn't.

Please consider giving your hard earned money directly to the AHPA these callers are representing. They are a charity telemarketing center and only give at most around 30% to the charities they are representing. If they really cared about the cause and how many teddy bears and other things they claim they've helped the AHPA give out then surely they would donate more than 30%??? Don't give them money just so they cam pocket most of it, which is the real reason they're calling!!

I received a call yesterday from Bradford. Soliciting for donations for AHPA teddy bear drive.  Choice of 100.00 200.00 or 300.00 dollars.  I told him I would need to check into. He was very pushy. And says we will fed ex out some support stickers.  Just give the fed ex person the 100.00 check.  I said I have not committed and he would need to call me back.  So today he called 2 x and left 1 message. The a 3 rd call from a different number. I told him I would not be donating. I volunteer at a lot of local charity events and donate monetarily when I can but I can't give to everyone and he hung up on me.  I knew he would after reading these posts yesterday. But for some reason he still made me feel bad by hanging up instead of saying I understand and maybe next year.    What a jerk!

This is NOT a scam, albeit some of the tactics that the people use on the phone can be a bit rude. Brent-Wyatt West is a telemarketing firm who helps out the AHPA in various charitable items (they are in about 8 other states across the country and have been in business for at least 20 years). And yes, some of the money you donate does go to the AHPA. BWW also produces a magazine called the Arizona Highway Patrol Magazine (or something like that) where your ad would appear. This magazine goes out to all the people in the Arizona Highway Patrol Association (FREE OF CHARGE), and should be sent to advertisers who pay for a certain size ad. The magazine has interesting stories geared to the Arizona Highway association. Why they don't have a website is beyond me. As I said before, it is NOT a scam, and the AHPA SHOULD verify that this company is working with them to help collect monies for both the Magazine and Charities.

I am the office manager of a construction company and the owner is very giving and agreed to help the AHPA. I spoke with Jeff Willis and paid $375 for 1/2 page ad in the magazine. I was told he would then send me a receipt and what he needed from us for the ad. When I hadn't received an email the next day, I tried calling the number 602-278-8110. No answer just rang and rang. Then I emailed. No response. The next day noticed the CC was charged $375 and I still could not reach anyone by phone or email. So I sent another email stating "If you do not respond to me by the end of the day, I will turn you in for fraud " .... so today I come into the office and the CC charges are no longer there. HMMMMMM, to those in the above conversation that state they are with the AHPA, please explain this situation to me! And then, tell me this is not a SCAM!  I am calling and reporting them today.

I received a call from Caller ID(# 602-252-0782  "Brent Wyatt") on November 12th.  He represented himself as a DPS Officer, and was asking for a donation to the AHPA's Christmas Teddy Bear Program.  I told him I would not donate because most of the money went to the company soliciting the donation.  He assured me he was an Officer and 100% of the  money would go directly to the Teddy Bear Program.  I told him he could send the information and I would check it out and may or may not donate.  I received the info and "Invoice" today.  I googled AHPA and here I am.  After reading comments above, I realize I was correct, in that 100% of my donation does NOT go to the Charity.  I am returning the envelope of information to AHPA and will take my donation directly to the AHP Office 3 miles up the road from my house!!   I really hate being lied to!!!

Caller ID stated Wes Bryant??? Phone number was 602-252-4635, asked for owner by name, when I asked name of company Gregory Landers stated he wasn't with any company. When I asked if I could take a message, Landers says the message is too long. If you are not with a company why are you calling a business and will not leave a message?
Sounds very suspicious and very unprofessional.
