Frederic,  have  you  tried to  regester  with the  National  Do Not  Call,  if  not you can find it on the computer  an  add  your  phone  numbers,  an it  takes  about  30 days to  get  it  all in  the  system  so you  dont  get  these  calls  but  if  you  still  get them   then  they have  a  complant  list that  you  can  enter the  phone  number  an they will  get in touch with them about  calling  you. I hope this  helps    just  look on the computer for  the  National Do Not  Call  Regerester.

Called wife's cell phone; she did not answer but we don't know who this is.  Based on the other entries here it looks like yet another phone spammer.

Thanks to this website for providing a valuable resource.  Will recommend it to my friends.

I did what you said like a bonehead I called * 57 That was a waste of $1.50 thanks alot! They don't even give you the number or tell you who they are, they tell you if it's an emergencey call 911. I want to know who it is and why they are calling me. Aha haa! That must be the scam  they tell you to call that *57 number to trace the call so they can make 1.50 off everyone damn I wish I would have thought of that. Thanks for nothing

I received a call on my Do-Not-Call listed phone at 1603 hrs today. A prerecorded message from an alleged ESG Research Group or some such nonsense wanted me to participate in a "survey" regarding the national debt. If I participated, I was promised the opportunity to take (I believe) a two-day cruise (gratuities and a small port tax extra.)  A poorly veiled tactic to try to get around the FCC's DNC requirements.  Bloody idiots!

It appears that these scam artists spoof various phone numbers.  I found an amusing article at: http://articles.latimes.com/2010/feb/19/business/la-fi-lazarus19-2010feb19 that details one reporter's experience with the scam.

I have fixed my phone so that on second ring the answering machine picks up.  This has stopped some of it and if I see who it is I can call back if a friend or pick up.   I am loving life since I did that..
