Beware these people prey on the elderly to scam them out of money!  Tell all your grandparents ASAP. They will act like a family member that needs money, stated " I sound different because I have a cold. Please let your loved ones know to not fall for this one!!!!

Scam they tried to scam my grandparents out of $1500.

Yes, this was tried on me,  Fortunately they were not accurate in there message so this was never a thought of sending money, Look out for this phone # and hang up and notify the party that he or she is being taraget.

My neighbor received a call her grandson was in jail for a "rear-ender" and needed $2400 to be sent to a woman (Sandra Delgado) in Atlanta ASAP. She said she even talked to her grandson and she knew it was okay. She called the (604) number Back and a man (Stanley Crawford) called her back saying he worked for the public defenders office. Thank god Western Union and Moneygram would not send it.. I called her grandson and he called her back to tell her he was not in jail and she was scammed.

Please call to verify before wiring $!

This happened to my Mother yesterday....exact same story, same names and everything. Beware...they are pretty convincing...thank goodness we didn't send them the $3400 that they wanted.

Yeah, they're good. The caller posing as her grandson also said he had a cold.

Same thing happened to my parents today said there grandson was in a car wreck and they needed to send money same phone number but different names the guy was Richard Carmicle and they needed to send money to Christin Thomas

Someone from this number 604-396-2520, called me asking for $1400 because my Grandson rear-ended a truck and I needed to bail him out of jail.  Then someone posing as my grandson said not to call his parents.

My Grandmother got the same call this morning. They wanted $1800. She was on to the scam, and lead the guy on. When he called back for the third time she gave Stanley Crawford (or what ever his real name was) an earfull and hung up on him. The funny thing is, she has the same last name Veronica. They must be working a list. These idiots have no respect for the elderly and deserve to rot in hell.

Exactly the same tactics as Janine Harnell relates from Nov. 15th were tried with my parents this morning! Someone inpersonated my 14 year old SON in a call to my parents and gave a long and frighteningly persuasive story to his grandparents concerning his being in jail and needing to re-pay the foreign national whose rental care he purportedly hit while out driving drunk in the middle of last night! Then "Stanely Crawford, "the "public defender"  who had purpotedly represented my son at a plea hearing that had already taken place, got on the phone and requested $2400 to reimburse the rental car company for the "damages" my son caused. Who was, by the way, in bed at the time this was to have all taken place, although unbeknownst to my terrified parents at that time.

Thank you for this site!! Very helpful in reassuring us that this was huge attemot to de-fraud us! I have also since learned that this scam is a state-sponsored one run by an African nation to raise revenue and has been occuring for a number of YEARS!

These people need to be stopped! I find it hard to believe with the technology we have, there isn't some way to find these slime balls who are scaring grandparents and taking their money! Do something please!

An acquaintance received a call from this number, and the public defender was Richard Carmichael..

This scam just happened to my mother-in-law THIS MORNING.  Everything exactly as the people below described. "Public Defender" Stanley Crawford will call you AFTER speaking with your loved one who says "they're a little shook up after the accident so they might no sound like themselves".  The guy is very slick, really believable, saying he just got out of court, no charges, just need to pay the restitution $1800 to get him out of jail and back at work tomorrow. Very, very good. I agree with people below, TELL YOUR GRANDPARENTS and older parents, because this is REAL.  I'm kind of shocked that we almost fell for it.

Same scam as reported by others.  Call to "grandma", grandson in jail in texas, rear ended another party while DUI, .086 BA level.   "Stanley Crawford" at 604 396 2520 said he was from public defenders office, had negotiated an out of court settlement. If I send $2700 to Ingred Melgarejo in Santa Cruz, Boliva, that would take care of repairs to rental car and make the case go away.   Crawford said that there was no bail arrangement to be made, that his office takes care of it this way.   He was unable to tell me what county he was located in, just said grandson is in the main jail.   Grandson was home asleep too!!

I fell for a scam.  Shame on me!   These are cool operators that took me for $2900 sent to an overseas site.  The reason for my response was to keep grandson's record clean.  Live and Learn.  Why did I get smart so early and dumb so late.

These people called my grandmother stating my brother had been arrested. The "attorney" needs her to wire $3,300 dollars to an account to pay for the damage done to a vehicle during a DUI. They stated the person whose car he hit was from Bolivia and they need the money wired to their bank account there. They called her multiple times stating it was urgent and the money had to be there by Friday. They even had someone call and pretend to be my brother.

Just happened to my parents.  Person called impersonating their grandson (very convincingly) in jail (DUI) with one phone call.  He requested $2400 to get grandson out of jail with nothing on permanent record.  Unfortunately, she sent it - to Bolivia.  Very sad. --- needless to say grandson is not in jail.

He tried to scam me out of $2900 today with the 'grandson in jail and has had a wreck'...it sounded so fishy, I googled him and the cat was out of the bag...

This "Stanley Crawford" called my mom and tried to get $2800 for a lie about me being in jail! These scam artists are causing chaos!! Beware of the excuses (having a cold, a one time call) and do not give them money! I am going to report it and hope they go to jail!
