I just got a dead air call from them at 2:30pm 5 November 2007

nothing -- left to answering machine, no comments.  Called at 3:11pm

I got a call from the same number and i called back to see  who it is. it is from the Conservative Party of Canada.

I got a call, but it was dead when I answered. Thanks to the above poster on the call back, I am a member of the party and they do call me from time to time.

Dead air, called the number back and learned it was the Conservative Party of Canada.

Called at 9:30 p.m March 23, 2009.  I was in bed when the call woke me up.  Didn't get there in time to answer it.

CallerID shows "613-219-1293" (including quotation marks) for the name.  I did not recognize the number, so I let the computer answer.  No message was left, but based on reports given here, I have put a block on the number.

Thanks for the comments here to determine who this is...If you don't have the courtesy to leave a message when calling at dinner time - Don't bother calling again - Thanks Shaw for the call blocking feature!

Who is this person, company?

I got this caller and the caller ID said the number with quotation marks and without the 1 at the begining all try asked for is my Dad.  then I checked on Canada 411 and they couldn't identify the phone number so I check the area codes and 613 is from somewhere in Ontario

The most interesting thing about these crooks is the caller ID NAME appearing in quotes "613-219-1293". Wonder how they do that?

They just don't stop calling me last days, but I don't answer when I see a phone number I don't know. No messages left. But I'm wondering how did they get my number, because it supposed to be confidential.

You did not answer my question:

Is 1-613-219-1293 a valid phone number used by the conservative party of Canada?

If so, why have I been receiving on average one or more calls per day from this number, all of the calls being dead air? (I pick up but the other end is silent)

Please ANSWER the first question.
I, and many other Canadians who have supported the conservative party, would like to know if this is truly from the conservative party of Canada's fund-raising campaign.

If these calls are not legit, then something should be done to deal with this phone spam as it tarnishes the conservative party's reputation(this includes letting us know that these calls do not originate from the conservative party.)

If these calls are legit, then something should be done about it as Canadians who support the conservative party do NOT wish to be spammed with daily dead-air calls.

I am not the only one receiving dead-air calls from this number.


Please ANSWER the questions.



PS. Don't 'happily' remove me from your call list as I do wish to support the conservative party, but please do answer the questions.

I can confirm that the calls from this number originate with the fundraising division of the Conservative Party of Canada.
On the issue of dead air, the only reason you receive this is that you are not patient.  Call centers use a technology called "auto-dialling".  Operators do not physically dial a number from a phone set.  It is automated using a very sophisticated computer system.  The phone numbers are loaded into the system, the phone system then sees how many phone operators are sitting waiting to take a call.  The autodialler starts dialling a number from the list.  When the dialler detects that the number is ringing through, it tells the phone system that there is a call coming through shortly, the phone system now finds an available telephone operator.  When you pick up the phone, a signal is sent to the phone system to say that you have picked it up.  It is at THIS POINT that the system attempts to connect you to an available operator.  There is a slight delay while the system sends you to an available operator - and this operator could be in the same building or half way around the world!  The dead air you hear is this delay from the time you pickup to the time the system connects to an operator.  YOu don't have to like it, but this is the way it is.  It's far more efficient that giving a list of numbers to an operator to dial manually.  The system also tracks which calls were answered so that if you did answer, it does not put your number back in the queue to be called again anytime soon.

I am a receptionist at a buisness and they constantly call daily. Everytime I get a call from a telemarketer I wait until they answer so I can tell them to take our number off of their calling list. However, they consistently hang up promply after I answer, leaving me with a dial tone.
So Mark you are inaccurate to say that people are not patient.
I am extremely irritated with these phone calls and they disrupt my busy workday!

As far as I know, it's illegal to use auto-dialers in Canada. It's also illegal to call people who are on the laughable DNC list. Thanks Conservative party...you've given us the two most expensive, useless jokes of legislation...the gun control law (criminals don't register their guns) and the Do Not Call list (low-life telemarketers purchase it as a treasure trove of confirmed active phone numbers.) Welcome to the inaction and inept style of Canadian legislators and their watchdog "enforcers" like the CRTC. I suspect this phone number is actually a telemarketer operating out of the US and spoofing the number. Report it to your phone company.

This makes at least a dozen times I've been called by (613-219-1293 "6132191293"), which is how it appears on my call display. A callback would seem to indicate the Conservative Party of Canada but I am now suspecting it's a "spoofed" number as I can't imagine the fundraisers calling on Sunday's or after 9 pm as some have indicated the calls where. I've formally had the call traced by the telephone company and am prepared to take legal action, so I'm keeping a log of the calls. Enough is enough.
