At an Eastern MA convenience store I bought 3 RCN Telecom Services prepaid phone cards @ $5.00 cash each to make local, regional, & long distance calls @ 2¢ per minute and mailed one card to a friend 2 towns away in the 781 Area Code. Each of us has a Verizon LifeLine (for old/disabled people) landline, so we get charged for all local/regional outgoing calls. My landline’s in the 617 Area Code, so my friend & I can call each other at the local Message Unit rate. The RCN card’s Service Center number has a 781 Area Code (presumably at the M.U. rate from my landline). But I got endless busy signals. My complaint calls to RCN and Verizon tech support were fruitless. My friend phoned me on his RCN card without impediment. But when his Verizon bill came, they socked him hundred$ at the 20¢/minute regional rate because, though their office is in nearby Belmont, their Call Center 781# is way down on the South Shore. The only way the card’s 2¢ rate works is if you pay for unlimited local service including the South Shore. Nothing on the RCN card warned us LifeLine crippled/old paupers about this underhanded 781 ripoff trap. CAVEAT EMPTOR! Especially if you have LifeLine, which in this RCN-Verizon bridge becomes DeathLine. Today (12/19/11) RCN’s Belmont office called me from 617-209-3859 without leaving a message on my answering machine. Say good-night, RCN!

I work for a large Boston area university, from their IT Department.  We've been getting phone calls from this number and all you hear is a "ping" noise over the phone.  Is it a prank?

We've been getting calls from this number almost daily. Nothing but static.

This number, 209-7538, and (925) 833-7538 are continuously calling numbers at the hospital tying up lines from other calls.  No one answers, and 925 area code is from California.

I called the number back and it was a voice mail for 'trade journals...to renew your free trade journal, touch one, to cancel touch 2"

I touched 2 and hope it will go away forever.  got 2 calls today with nothing on the other end.

I too work for a large Boston center for higher education, the one that just got a nice gift for the hockey team.

I have been getting calls too, and finally someone was there, it's for trade journal magazine subscriptions.  It seems you have to talk to them and say yes or they keep calling.

I work for a large hospital and my coworkers and I keep getting calls from this number. We have both answered and no one is there. UGH!
