Bogus? No call back info. Scammer?

Offered a medicare product. Verified name, address and phone number,  then the person asked for social security number. I refused, they said you have to give it to us. I refused again. The caller hung up. The caller was difficult to understand, sounded like someone from India.

HEAVY middle east accent person named "Robert Norman" claimed I was being sent a new medicare card.  Said he was calling from FL; had my name, address and phone number; knew bank routing # & needed my bank acct. # before he could send me to another person for activation .I told him I wasn't comfortable giving him that info; he told me I had to or I would lose my medicare.  Got belligerent when I refused so I hung up.  He had the nerve to call back and when I did not pick up, left a message saying: "Stupid (my last name) you have just lost your medicare.  A$$hole".  I reported it to Medicare and will do the same to the FTC when the shutdown is over.
Do these idiots think we just fell off the turnip truck?
I am keeping the recording for any possible further action.

I received a phone call a few minutes ago. The background sounded like a very large, very busy office.

Caller:    Is this Mrs. Y----------?
Me:   Yes
Caller: This is Mrs. ... (I can't remember the name) with the Social Security Administration. We are sending out new social security cards and need to verify your information. Is your correct address (she read off my street address, town & zip code correctly)?
Me:    Yes
Caller:  Thank you. Now we just need to verify a little more information. What is the name of the banking institution where your checks are sent?
Me:     I don't do this over the telephone.
Caller immediately hung up.

At 6:15 pm today a man w/Indian accent asked me if I was------- ! I asked who's askin'? He mumbled some illegible name & asked my name again, stating that he needed go verify name & address to mail new Medicare Card! I had him repeat request then told him I need his name & # to call him back~ because I do not believe what he's saying! Immediately he hung up! WSPA-TV Consumer Advocate told me that I could personally verify WHO called & read others Comments ~ And that you all are Legit! Thanks, for confirmation, assurance & peace to have this knowledge! I just received the identical call today (10/16/2013) asking me for my bank account information so that I could receive my new Social security card. I knew it was a sca,m for many reasons -- not the least of which is that this occurred during the Government shut down and the SS office is closed.  

Its a very sophisticated operation -- which I fear many older people might fall for.  

There was background noise indicating many more callers -- no doubt doing the same kind of calls.  The caller had a thick Indian or Pakistani accent.

Got the exact same call this afternoon, when it got to the what bank do your Social Security payments go to, I caught on and said not giving you that info....I hung up before they had a chance to harass me any further. I hope no one actually falls for this scam!

This just happened to my Dad. Caller with the heavy accent described by others. Claimed to be from the social security department and needed to verify information from my Dad. My Dad asked for a number to call him back at and his name. He started screaming and cursing at my Dad who just hung up.

SAME AS THE OTHERS.  MIDDLE EASTERN ACCENT, VERY BAD PHONE CONNECTION, COULD HARDLY HEAR HIM.  KNEW IT WAS A SCAM BUT WANTED TO PLAY WITH HIM FOR AWHILE TO WASTE HIS TIME.  BUT HE HUNG UP WHEN I ASKED HIM TO REPEAT EVERYTHING.  REALLY BAD CONNECTION SO I ASSUMED IT WAS FROM OFFSHORE, BUT THE NUMBER IS FROM BOSTON, ALTHOUGH THE PHONE COMPANY SAYS IT'S A NON-WORKING NUMBER.  PROBABLY SPOOFED.  HOPE HE CALLS BACK.

I also got this same call 2 days ago. They are the stupid ones.

I fell for it and had to close my checking account and change all my direct deposit information.

Received call from 617-284-1955 this evening at 7:00 PM. Caller ID indicated it was from Cambridge, MA.  Lots of background noise, sounded like a call center.  Heavily accented male vaice.  Said he was from Social Security and I was to get a new SS card.  I hung up.

Just got the same message.  I hung up.  The call was from the same number and Cambridge, MA.

i am recieving many calls from the number6152841955. all the day long and even at night.How can I stop it?

calling to get credit card information or bank info say they are with state programs

Said all seniors will be getting a new medicare card.  Wanted address, etc.  Wanted to know name of bank where funds are sent.  I refused.  He hung up.

getting several calls at 7:30 am.I want to take legal action.

Husband took call at 4:48PM.  He just received a replacement medicare care.  Woman asked questions then banking information.  I go him to hang-up.  Absolutely do not give out personal information.  Thanks to all who have posted information on  this number.

Got same type of call as others reported--busy call center in background, male voice so heavily accented that I could understand only one in 4 or 5 words. Called me Mrs. _______, so I was immediately wary because I use my original name. Couldn't really understand what he wanted but told him he'd have to call back and talk to my husband. He hung up.

Keep getting calls from this nbr.  Using caller ID, we don't answer calls that are not identifiable as someone we know.  Don't answer calls that only identify themselves with a phone nbr, unknown nbr, private caller, etc. If we can't identify the caller, we don't answer.
