IT'S THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE

Received a call from a "Gerald Jones" claiming to be from the "Internal Revenue Service" to my voice mail. I returned the call and spoke with "Mr. Jones". He asked questions stating this was a "routine call". He made statement that my company offered check cashing services. My company does NOT and never has. He said he was just updating his records. I became suspicious and started asking him questions. I asked for his badge number and he obliged with "1000174099". Then I asked where his office was located of which he replied "New Sudbury Street, Boston", which is the correct address for the Boston IRS office. He said he could mail me or fax me his verification so I told him to mail it to the current address they have on file and asked him to verify the address with me. He gave me a PO Box and physical address that I have not had in SEVERAL years. I then told him to fax me his verification information and he said he would oblige.

After this conversation I telephoned my accountant, who just happens to be IRS Certified and explained the telephone call. He confirmed my suspicions. That this was a "PHISHING" expedition. My accountant of 20 years says that the IRS will ALWAYS contact you by US Mail FIRST. NEVER A TELEPHONE CALL !

The Caller ID reported this Telephone number as 617-316-2174 but Mr. Jones left in his voice mail to call him back at 617-316-2174.

Beware if you receive a call from the "IRS" unless you are already in discussions with an IRS employee.

The same number just called us and we are a check cashing he asked if we do moneygram I said no so he hung up

Yes, this guy called today and in the past, our business did indeed cash checks.  I don't know where he is getting the information from, but I think that possibly he has somebody working on the inside of the federal government providing him with valuable information even though this is a COMPLETE SCAM.  We also had a money remittance system similar to Western Union and somehow he knew the name of the service we used.  This is definitely creepy and in many ways can tell you that no information is safe anymore; albeit less safe when in government hands.  Hang up on this guy as soon as he calls you; phone number comes up as 617-316-2000, but name is Unavailable.  Called at 3:11PM on 3/31/15.  Be on the lookout for this coward.
