a woman's voice informed me that "do you know that your computer is at risk"

Selling something .  Want to separate me from some of my money to enrich themselves

This caller is calling from a criminal organization in a foreign country using a USA based number. They will try to commit fraud by directing your attention to an issue with your computer. Do not answer calls from this number.

Says I downloaded something that I shouldn't have.  I hung up then

caller claimed something is wrong with my home computer and I hung up.

Did not identify themselves or a company and immediately notified me my computer had viruses. I hope no one falls for their scam.

Yet another call from this non-existent (spoofed) Amagansett, NY number arrived today, just a few months since their calls on Sept.. 28 & Aug. 23/  Once again, when the call rolled to voice mail, the caller left no message, just muffled noise in the background, followed by a hang-up.  This is typical of robocallers (illegal telemarketers) who troll the phone lines seeking gullible schmucks to victimize.

Why anyone from Amagansett, NY would phone someone in Southern California is beyond me, as I neither know nor do business with anyone in that community 3,000 miles away.  Criminals, however, will victimize anyone, anywhere.

Thanks to many posters, the caller has been unmasked as Middle Eastern-accented crooks masquerading as Microsoft technicians who will clean your computer of viruses.  Folks, these scam artists actually intend to clean your wallet; they specialize in wallettechtomy!

Stop these telecriminals at the point of contact.  Let your answering machine take their pathetic, thieving calls!

Got this call, too.Never answer unknown call.

Received 5 calls in a row yesterday afternoon. Calls went to voice mail, which I do not and will not set up for this exact problem. This is a  group of low-life scammers, as other posters here have  claimed.

Caller informed me my computer was "generating error messages" and I needed to go to my computer.  I requested the caller to tell me what operating system I was using.  Silence.  I offered to help my telling him the main OS in America.  "Oh, OK" he said and hung up.  SCAM!!!

With all these complaints why doesn't  the telephone company just cut off the service?

Told me my computer had bad viruses. Told him I only had a tablet. He hung up on me.

Online update on caller ID. Woman asked,  "can you hear me?" I yelled NO and hung up.

Caller (a women) indicated that my windows operating system was hacked and sensitive files are at risk...A total scam!

Tired of their calls so I answered.  Male with distinct accent said my computer had been compromised.  I said it was in the repair shop and he argued with me...it wasn't  but almost fun to mess with them.  He finally was baffled and I hung up...never again

DO NOT BECOME A VICTIM OF THESE TELECRIMINALS.  LET YOUR ANSWERING MACHINE TAKE THEIR PATHETIC CALLS.

Tech support scam - they lie to you that they are from Windows, that your computer has issues, and will try to get you to run eventvwr to look at phony error messages.   They lie about their name, they lie about their company, they lie about their location and phone number, and they lie about your computer.  If you type in what they ask, it will let them connect to your computer and they will hand you off to their "manager" who will load viruses onto your computer and destroy files, and then charge your credit card to "fix your problems".

Received a call from this telephone number. No message was left. Anonymous callback reached the familiar "Press 9 to be placed on the Do Not Call List". Other notes indicate that this is the group of clowns posing as Microsoft Support making cold calls to, supposedly, "fix' your computer.

Answered call.  A foreign female voice said she was calling about a security breach with my windows computer.  Before she could say more, told her that was strange because I did not have a windows computer.  She tried to argue, but told her I knew it was a scam and not to call me again.  I hung up

This a a scam. They are calling claiming you have a Microsoft Windows problem and they want you give them access to your computer so that they can fix it.  What they will do is enter your computer and extract information and insert programing that provides them with things like your social security number, credit card numbers, expiration dates, etc. Or they will enter your computer, create a problem and then charge you to fix the problem they created.

If you tell them that you are aware of their scam, they will threaten that they will suspend all your Microsoft software and services.  They cannot do so.  They will also try to reassure you they are legit by claiming they are recognized by the City of Miami, FL or other such nonsense.  Do not give them any information. Do not do as they ask. Doing so will let them gain access into your computer. Tell them you are reporting them to proper authorities and hang up on them.
