They just called me at work and the guy wanted me to let him access my computer remotely.  He said our computers had "downloaded corrupted files over the last two weeks."  I was immediately suspicious. Took his name and number and said I'd have my IT guy call him back.  Gave his name as Eric Smith. Interesting name given the "Allen Jones" in an earlier post.

Just happened to my mom.  Her computer screen turned blue and then the screen turned black.  We restarted the computer, the Windows status bar appeared, but the computer never started.  The status bar appeared for 15 minutes.  While the status screen was running, my mother received a phone call from a blocked number.  The caller knew my mother's name and referred to her by name.  The caller stated that our computer was having problems and was infected with a virus and that they were going to help us fix the computer.  My mother asked for the caller's name.  The caller, who had a heavy foreign accent, responded that she was named Sandra and was calling from "Windows System Support."  

My mother handed me the phone.  When I said hello, Sandra somehow knew my name as well.  (I no longer live at my parents and was just visiting.)  My father could have easily picked up the phone as well, so it's strange she assumed it was me.  I believe the caller knew I was with my mother at the time (possibly remote webcam access?).

I asked Sandra for her number and she provided 646-559-6161.  I googled it while I had Sandra on the phone and learned the whole call was a scam.  I asked that if she wanted to continue speaking, I would either need to speak to a supervisor or I would call law enforcement.  She told me, "Why would I jeopardize my job by calling you?"  I repeated my request again and she hung up.

I guess having Norton Internet Security doesn't do much to protect stuff like this.

hi, i am a Dell employee and all the inbound calls what you get from windows or microsoft or sometimes Dell which says that there is something wrong in the computer and want to take an access of the computer are all SCAMS...so plese do not let them do this call up the manufacturer for the support and do not provide and personal information on the calls, these are not the legetimate calls...

Received the same call several times now.  Prior caller has hung up when I've questioned him.  Today he provided the number 646-559-6161.  Interestingly, the caller states he is with Windows Security, but the caller ID comes up as a private caller-which made me instantly suspicious.

Same number, same scam.

They wanted me to buy a package to save the computer and clean it;  when I wouldn't buy it, they were upset and wanted to know why.

I told they I was a lawyer and didn't think they were authentic.

Yea my Mom has been getting these calls. They say her computer ID has informed them that the computer is having problems etc etc. She identified herself as Nancy at 646-559-6161. Good scam because  who isn't having computer problems.
