Report a phone call from 646-918-5162 and help to identify who and why is calling from this number.
- Angry in Oregon| 6 repliesI've received multiple harassing phone calls from this number. The individual who called me has identified himself by several names, Office Steven Smith and Office Lee Walker. He has called my home and work phone numbers from disguised numbers like +0000 and +0459 but has left the above-mentioned number as the one to call back. This morning he called my office and told my office manager that he was from the "Financial Crimes Unit" and that I must call him back immediately. He also asked if I was married and became hostile when my office manager refused to provide him with an answer.
I contacted this Officer Lee Walker this afternoon and was confronted by an individual with a very thick accent who demanded that I spell my name and that I listen to him carefully as I had federal allegations pending against me for a financial matter. When I asked him who he worked for, he told me that he was an officer at the financial crimes division. I asked if he worked for the US government, he said yes. When I told him that I didn't believe that his call was legitimate because the federal government doesn't file court cases against individuals for civil debt he got very angry. I continued by telling him that per the Fair Debt Collection Act, if this was a legitimate debt, he needed to send me confirmation of the debt and request for payment by US Mail. He said that he was not able to do that. I asked that he not call my office anymore and that any other communication be done by mail. He told me to "get ready to lose my job" and hung up on me. I called him back and asked that he provide me with his badge number so I could contact the agency that he claims to work for to confirm the authenticity of his call. He then told me that I better "get the best attorney that you can find to represent you in court" said "good luck!" and then hung up on me. I called him again and told him that impersonating a federal agent was a felony in the United States and that I was contacting the FBI. I asked him if he wanted to hang up on me again and he did.
Based on several posts on other websites, I believe that the person who is calling me is not collecting a legitimate debt. It seems that they are targeting people who at one time had a payday loan through a company that used a call center in another country (India, maybe?) that sold the client list. These companies are calling people from a variety of numbers probably using VOIP software. It doesn't sound like there is any recourse for the people being targeted by these scammers. I'm planning on contacting the FBI because I don't know what else to do. It looks like this number is owned by Verizon so I intend on contacting them to report that I am being harassed by an individual at one of their phone numbers and that I intend to hold them responsible if the calls don't stop.- Caller: Unknown
- beckaht replies to Angry in Oregon| 3 repliesI have recieved the same calls from this number!! 3 and 4 times a day!! The problem is he knows everything about me, My bank account info ss# address and even my computer IP address...I mean what is the deal I now have to go a switch all my accounts and everything! When he calls me he goes by the name Steve Watson....He has told me the police will come here and arrest me!! I tried to ask him for information or if he could send me something about this in the mail or by email cause he has that info to and he refuses!! I called and put a complaint in with the fdc i believe and they told me they would put it on file but there was nothing they could really do cause more than likely they are not from the United States!! I mean seriously there has to be something they can do!! This guy needs to stop calling and harrasing me! It probably wouldn't be so bad but he uses a lot of profanity at me and I am pretty sure when your collecting a debt thats the last thing you want to do to someone!! Let me know if you have gotten anywhere with verizon or the FBI.
Thanks - LB replies to beckaht| 1 replyI called them on one number and proceeded to ask what company they were with and who i was speaking to. I then hung up and called several of the other numbers they gave me and asked for te same person, who seems to work at all of them. I asked where the paperwork for this claim was and they had the same answer of are you familiar with federal banking laws. I asked if they were familiar with federal telecommuncation harrassment laws. They then got mad and said i was in trouble. I told them that if i was i was going to send the US Army to their country to blow it up since we're making idle threats. After several minutes, I got transferred to another person and it startd up again. Needless to said that I had a profanity laced conversation with them and told them that they can stick their scam somewhere. He surprisingly told me to go to hell, which I told him you first. I then played the "I'm gonna repeat everything you say game", which really pissed him off. The conversation concluded with me hanging up on them.
In short, it is a scam because the name of the loan company changes everytime. They even got scared of me recording the conversatiion. Why? Who knows, but i think I showed them. - Anonym replies to LBThey called me this morning. John Miller, ranted off all my information which I did not agree to and didnt even state that he was talking to who he asked for. He proceeded to tell me that I had a illegal matter against this number, my cell phone number. Said his badge number was 191. Said they had the best attorney to reresent them. I argued with him and told him he needed to produce something in writing and that I have rights. He asked me if my email address was what he said and I didnt agree. He told me I was gonna be arrested in 48 hours. This happened once before and I have yet to be arrested. I did defualt on a couple payday loans but have contacted the companies and it just so happens that its not these people. Wow, much to my suprise!!!
- Karen in HoustonI received a call yesterday from this "Officer" Steve Watson. What a joke! He wanted me to "verify" my identity when I called him back by providing him my social security #!!!! Anyway, he made all the threats that are already listed in all the messages below from others who have had him call.
He said within 48 hours I will be apprehended at my work or residence by federal agents. He also said he was from the Federal Crimes Investigation Dept. but then later said he was with the Financial Crime Division. Supposedly federal agents were investigating crimes connected to me.
At first I was wondering what the heck was going on (while listening to the message)...I do have some unpaid hospital bills, but come on...federal agents? I then thought maybe it was a case of mistaken identity.
The, as he kept rambling on...I could only understand half of what he was saying due to his thick Indian accent...I realized this guy was such a scam.
Why can't people just WORK for their money? Like real work, not scamming and hustling!
I decided to google the # he left and found this site. I then called the Houston division of the FBI and reported everything he left on my voicemail. I also saved the message in case it is needed later. - Carla in Columbus| 2 repliesOMG!!! i have taken out a few payday loans online just to help get by occasionally, easier than taking off work to do it, and this guy with a VERY HEAVY Indian/Pakistani accent that says his name is "Steve Watson" calls and calls and calls me for $786.00 he says i owe, OMG what do i do..... HE IS THREATENING ME WITH JAIL, BEING ARRESTED EITHER FROM MY JOB OR MY HOME. very scary stuff, will never take out another online loan again!!!!!

- Anonym replies to Carla in ColumbusWell 48 hours has passed and I am still here! Beware of these people!! They will stop calling but then eventually get another number and start calling again! Call their bluff! I callled the number back and disguised my voice and they did not even answer like a place of business should! What a scam!! Do not agree to anything when speaking to them. If they cant mail something to you then something is definitely wrong!
- IHI received a voicemail at work. It was from a man named Mark Henry. He claims to be from the Federal Crimes Unit. Saying I owe money. I better call him or else. Good luck to me if I don't call him. I googled the number and saw all the information posted about this number.

- Harrassed in New YorkI've been getting the same calls in New York for several months now. First it was a female who called me and when I asked her to verify the information, she said she couldn't and that I had to call another number, which I did not do! I checked with my bank and was told it's a scam. I've called the local Sheriff's department and they can't do anything about it unless someone provides some paper work. It's very frustrating as now they are coming up unavailable on the caller id, but the call back number they leave is the 646-918-5162 and now the guy that calls is calling himself Charlie Brown with the Federal Crimes Unit. Previously they told me they were with the Federal Bureau of Investigations! Watch out for these scammers!

- kariebarie replies to Angry in OregonThis is almost exactly the same situation pulled on me this am. Freaked me out beyond - asking me for my attorney's fax and that I was involved in several counts of a federal crime involving a loan thru the internet etc.....the # he called from was 052575586 and he said he was an officer with the Financial Crime Division and said his name was Sean Marsh. He said I owed $1495 but he would take $592 because I had no previous criminal charges against me. He said the loan was from E- Loan Universe - which I never had any contact or business with. He was agressive and intimidating in his threats and extreme manipulation. I have to tell you I almost bought it at first. BEWARE
- donna in floridaI feel like such a fool. The same situation happened to me. Only this man with the heavy accent called me at work saying it was urgent and to call him back. I have gotten a call from an officer in the past and to let everyone know i did have a family member past away. So when this officer called stating he was calling from Manhattan. I was very scared to say the least. I called this man back. who stated the same to all of us about owing money. This man did have all my personal information. He did not say is this your information. The only reason why it came to realize he was false because he asked me to western union him $143.00 on a blue union form with a conformation #. I did not. I also called the police.Who informed me it was a scam and as long as i did not give money or as tried to get into my accounts I am O.K. This man did call me back on an Miami number and I told him I was not paying him one red cent. I also called him the next day and gave him a few choice words. However now i have to change all my information. I do not know what this man is going to do with my info. Thank you all for listening

- IowaI just received a call (at work), from this person, "Officer Mark Henry" asking to speak to one of our employees. I informed him that our employees can not receive personal phone calls at work. He told me that call was urgent, and regarding an investigation that involved the employee. He asked that I take a message and pass it on to the employee. I agreed, and asked him for his name. He had to tell me several times because I couldn't understand him, and was shocked when he spelled out "Mark Henry." He gave me the number 646-918-5162 as a call back number. I thought the call was very strange, so I googled it and found this site.
- CindyI too just had "Mark Henry" contact me with the same information. As well, he has all of my banking information, ss#, date of birth, etc. I'm not sure what to do at this point. It's very scary!

- julieI also received a call from this person impersonating an officer with a very thick Indian accent I knew it was a fraud. Don't ever tell them anything personal about yourself. It is scarey and makes you wonder if they can steal your identity.
