This was a call center calling to "verify the factuals of my employment history".  

First, let me preface by saying that I was laid off about 10 months ago.  I'm desperate for a job.  I am also really skilled at spotting a fake job ad - the ones that employment agencies continually post on job boards like careerbuilder and monster that aren't actually jobs, but they might some day have a temp job that will fit the ad.  I only apply to the ones that seem legit, and this one did.

Since an actual phone number came up on my caller ID, I answered.  Yes, it was out of my area code, but I am applying for corporate and government jobs, so there's a chance that the job I apply for in downtown Chicago will have a hiring manager in another state.

When I answered, I heard a recording telling me to please hold while they connect me to a career opportunity specialist.  The thing is, this recording is really good, and you will think it is a real person...until she connects you to another recording that says, "Thank you for calling!  We value your business, and a career opportunity specialist will be with you shortly."

Now I am annoyed.  So I wait to speak to the person who will undoubtedly try to sell me something.  Her name is Laurie.

"Yeah, can I talks to Jill?"

"This is."

"Hi, this is Laurie calling from Career Network.  I'm calling to verify the factualizations on your resume."

"What?"

"I need to verify the factualizations on your resume.  You applied for a job that we posted on July 23rd, and I need to verify the factualizations."

"For what company?"

"That's private information."  (PRIVATE, not confidential.)

"I've never had a call center contact me to verify anything on my resume.  I'm surprised that a company wouldn't have their HR department do that, or at least do that after an interview."

"If the facts is true, then they'll want to interview yous."

I told her I would call her back, and came to the computer and searched for "Career  Network".  They have 143 complaints on the RipoffReport.  never mind.

But beware - they obviously didn't have Laurie write the job ad.  It looked legit.  Just a reminder to never, ever give your personal information to anyone over the phone.  Especially not an employer.

They are now operating under the name 3 Stars, Inc., but have also gotten 6 complaints at that name (just since 10/08). As the BBB warns, they operate "under a variety of different names," and even the BBB doesn't understand "exactly what they do."

Good information.  Thank you.  I missed their call, but here's my take:  If you are a legitimate business and are truly wanting to verify facts the company will leave a message.  No message left.   I have programmed the number into my phone reading "Do Not Answer"

I got a call from this # today as well, they reference the position that I applied for and verified my basic contact information, and of course asked me if I had ever served in the military and what is my highest level of education. After I advised them that I have a graduate degree the woman told met that she would email me a form to move me to the next step in the hiring process. I obviously never got an email. They didn't ask for a SSN, which I wouldn't give out anyway, but it's very disappointing especially when you are desperate for work, and end up wasting valuable time applying for jobs that aren't real. Very disappointing.

I received a call them yesterday.  They left a message to contact Jessica at the the number given "678-791-4200".  I typed their number into the yahoo search and this website came up.  Thank God I did not call them before reading this website.

My VM cut off the first part of the message. All that I heard as ...Network, and then it went into the same message to hold on for a verification specialist. First of all, why would they be calling the resume holder for resume verification? Most HR personnel call the employers and learning institutions directly for verification, or ask to see transcripts. They left a message and I did not wait for the rest of it before googling the number. Craigslist, CareerBuilder & Monster are FULL of SCAM ARTISTS looking to profit off of people looking for employment. Don't they realize that we don't have $$ anyhow? I made the mistake of posting an ad on Craigslist and w/in 10 mins. received a whole bunch of emails asking me to receive money to put in my bank account and then send them some of it back. These are ppl from Nigeria, & even Ireland, who are looking to scam ppl seeking legitimate work. This company is not a BBB accredited business. Thx to whoever posted the BBB rating. It provides a lot of information. Unless you know the business, you should always try to research a company b/4 sending along a resume.

Also, if you get an email or call from Michael Vincent, the disregard it and place it as spam. Michael Vincent is a known scammer. He has been booted out of several states, but keeps popping back up in other states to continue his practices. He will send you an email that says, "I have found the perfect job for you", or " I have found you a job." They are always the same, he wants money, plain and simple. Don't fall for Michael Vincent's practices. STAY AWAY!

This number came upon my cell phone today.  Didn't recognize it so I didn't answer and after doing an internet search on the number and finding this site I'm really glad I didn't!  Pretty sure this stems from a few craigslist ads I responded too.  Lesson learned.

This is a company that will try to scam you into signing up for some type of college. It is nothing more than a scam. They call all hours of the day and night and leave the same message about needing to verify information on a job that you recently applied for. If you ever get a live person that is what they are wanting to do. They apparently got my information off of careerbuilder, i recently responded to a job on it. This is not the first time that this has happened either.They have been reported to several BBB agencies but are still doing the scam.

I heard from a jessica .Told her she was calling the FBI field office in Columbus,oh.She needed my phone # for verification.I told her to check her caller ID.I then asked for her manager-he was busy.I told her to ask if they ever heard of the patriot act.I guess they have because the only reply was a hangup.In case you are bored during the day you can keep calling them over and over
