I received a call this morning from someone claiming to be an IRS agent and because I am such a "loyal tax return filer", I qualifeid to receive over $1100.00 in refunds. I am a senior tax accountant at a CPA firm and know first and foremost, the IRS NEVER corresponds via telephone unless they are returning your telephone call. They always initiate everything in writing by sending you a letter. The guy said that this amount of money is too large to send via the mail, and just wanted to verify some information and needed my bank information and SSN to have the money directly put into my account. Luckily, I am aware of the scams going around and told him that I am an accountant, I know about his scams and am not interested and I hung up. Please let everyone in your life - family, friends, customers, etc. know about this scam. They are taking a lot of money from innocent people because the IRS does intimidate many people. I tried calling the number back that showed up on our caller id, and of course, it does not exist. I am in the process of working with the IRS and the Attorney General's office to try to get these people caught.
