I just called them back...asked (politely) how to be added to their "Do not call" list. The gentleman read back my number (from his caller ID) and then said my name was now on the DNC list and thanked me for the call. It almost seemed too easy...we'll see...

I have found the perfect thing. If you have a computer with a CID / Voice modem in it, i suggest you go online to PHONETRAY.COM. It is free software you install on your computer. Once you have it installed and connected to the phone line the software answers the call for you. There is an almost unlimited data base you can enter numbers in you want to be contacted by. There is even a way you can give that number a personalized mesage. It comes with some canned messages for telemarketers, private numbers and a few others. You can enter known numbers and block them as well. If the number is not in the database then the call gets zapped and logged for future reference. I make no money from this, but I am glad that I found this. So much so I am letting all my friends know how nice this is. I have never seen anything like this with so many options.

Robo call from Americans for Prosperity as noted above.  First of all, they might as well call themselves "Americans for Support of Mothers and Warm Apple Pie."  Second of all, this is just another of the fronts largely for the Koch brothers.  They pretend they're about normal folk and grassroots, but its the same giant corporate money crap that tramples normal, grassroots folks every day.  I feel bad for the people duped by this junk, especially for those they recruit to ultimately work against themselves.

What Ace said.  You gotta look past the "motherhood and apple pie" rhetoric to find out what these organizations and/or people are really all about.

Americans for Prosperity - aka Koch Brothers.  Find out who your state director is and bother them at home every time you get a robocall.  They are paid over $100,000 a year to spread propaganda and lies.

Also - watch the Greenwald Film - Koch Brothers Exposed.

Something to keep in mind about all these continuing bothersome calls for surveys, so called charities and so called charity pickups despite asking them to remove you from their list:

Call centers have sprung up in my town that make use of the survey and the charity loophole around the do not call list; they have been a headache for law enforcement, emergency services, neighboring businesses and residential areas.  When I ask any patrolling officer in town about these call centers, they are quick to state their frustrations about the criminal activity that some of these call centers have brought into the area. Several law enforcement agencies regularly visit some of these call centers looking for warrant arrests etc.  I have heard from sources including from frustrated employees that work for these call centers complaining about the drug activity, vandalism of cars and neighboring businesses, break-ins and theft, drinking while on the job, smoke breaks are actually marijuana breaks, drunk driving, very dangerous driving, tons of tossed out litter of empty liquor containers, trash, food etc.  I’ve even heard that the mangers are also involved in criminal activities and have even preyed on their legitimate employees who are simply trying to eek out a living on horrible wages.  Also the operators are untrained in a very high turn around, poorly managed and dysfunctional work environment.

Also realize this when you call a companies’ customer service line and get horrible service from the call center that’s been hired by the company.  One time while on a call with our bank’s customer service, the operator was so loopy that it required ending the call and calling again to try and get someone else to help, think about that when you call a companies’ customer service and the conversation gets odd, off the wall and obtuse – you may be talking to an operator that’s drunk or on something.  After 6 months of getting a different and wrong answer to our ongoing problem each time we called our bank’s call center, we gave up and closed the account.

With so little police left in our town due to cutbacks, they can’t always respond to vandalism and break-ins when it’s witnessed as they have their plate full responding to the major emergencies, this allows the criminal activity free reign, the neighborhood becomes the hood.  Some insurance companies require proof of private security patrols before they will honor a claim due to vandalism or theft leaving the neighboring businesses off guard and uncovered.  These businesses also have the added cost to hire private security, install security systems/monitoring, upgrade lighting etc.  Then there are the dangers and headaches to the nearby businesses employees such as their cars being vandalized or broken into.  Some businesses simply give in, pickup and move out of town.

One of my neighbors owns a call center and he requires that his operators are bonded, but I guess there’s no laws requiring this – there should be.  Right now in my town it seems like anybody can start up a call center and hire questionable labor for cheap without much regulation.

I my efforts the past several years to try and get something done, I am most struck by the fact that there’s no real help, everyone is more worried about being sued than dealing with the obvious problem - you are on your own....

Americans for Prosperity aka billionaire Koch brothers.  They hire lobbyists in each state for $100,000 a year to spread propoganda and lies.  Watch Koch Brothers exposed.  They are not a "grass roots" organization.  Call their national office at 703-224-3200 and ask to be put on the Do Not Call List and to stop harassing us!

    Call Blocker
They just called me, around dinner time, of course.  No name, so I let them talk to voice mail. Next time they call they won't have that luxury, thanks to the best money I ever spent on a phone.  I brought up their number, hit "save" then "caller block."  When they call back it will ring once and then be disconnected. The only problem is it's limited to 30 numbers and there are so many of those annoying callers (and, yes , I am on the National Do Not Call list, but it is useless against charities, politicians, and Police calling for donations) that I periodically have to delete one of the older ones if they haven't called in a while. The phone's a Panasonic I found at Costco, but I'm sure other brands have a similar feature.

I am listed so my friends can find me and call, not so total strangers can. I consider it an invasion of my privacy...if there is such a thing anymore.

Every time my phone rings once and I see "Caller Blocked", I smile a little.

For the record: You can't run a modern country without some serious taxes & spending that may seem "reckless."  Anyone who wants "minimal" government needs to visit places that have such a thing: Somalia, Sudan, & Haiti come to mind.  I'd bet folks there pay virtually no taxes, & there is very little government spending.  Maybe because there is little cash to pay with, & not much government to spend it.

If I could get a real person at Americans for Prosperity (instead of a mindless recording), I'd tell them that.

They are not tea party either. Don't give money to the TPP, TPN, or TPE... Give it to your local tea party. The aforementioned groups just give it to establishment GOP and consultants -- none of it ever goes to a real tea party that was formed in 2007 by Ron Paul people.

No legit tea party collects money!
