Calls several times per week always between 8-8:30 in the evening.  Never has said a thing just hangs up.

I get phone calls from this number, 703-656-9940 all the time and no one is ever there. I am so sick of the phone ringing all the time and then when I answer it there is no answer. The caller ID says NRA, the National Rifle Association. I have never been against guns and I am a hunter, but now I am against the NRA. LEAVE ME ALONE!!!! You're not getting a dime from me, NRA, so quit harrassing me. You are invading my privacy, annoying my family, disrupting dinner every night, and you cowards won't even respond when I answer the phone.

Call from 703-656-9940.  Sounded like a teenager calling just saying hello, hello, as if expecting me to pick up.  

Another recent annoying call seems to have gone away.  I took the tip from someone who said to pick up and hit the # several times and it drives the caller's computers up the wall.

Someone put these folks out of business and locked up.

Out of area appears when this call comes (caller ID).  A recorded message is some times left and my credit rating.  Not the NRA but I get alls from them all of the time as well.

We get these calls all times of the day, numerous times a day.  Its really annoying.  Usually we don't answer b/c it shows up the number and NRA on our caller ID.  But when we do answer, we tell them to please take us off their call list.  We get hung up on while we are talking.  Its really rude and I'm at the end of my rope with them.  I don't know how to stop these calls but I won't stop trying until they quit.

Am going to try the # thing mentioned above.  That might at least be fun.

Two days in a row, I've received calls at 4pm from this number, with a hesitation and then a hang up. I'll try the # sign tomorrow, if I'm called again. Thanks.

These people will not stop calling. I tell them that we do not accept phone soliciatations and they keep asking for my husband who tells me to hang up and they keep calling.
Can't we send out a complaint to the co or somehing?  We should all sue for harrassment.

Aug 12 2008 7:30 pm PDT  Call and no one there.  Area code says Arlington area VA  NRA headquarters is in nearby Fairfax so I guess its safe to say it is them.  I joined them once but soon tired of what appears to be a poorly organized group with one aim.  Basically a money grubbing scheme.  They even screwed up my name on the crap gifts they sent inscribing Eave on them. Has anyone actually known a Mr, Eave???  Been hounding me for money ever since.  All the do is spout the same tired rhetoric about needing money to fight gun legislation.  Maybe here is some truth but just as likely there is some cats getting fat off of the poor intimidated American's wallet.  They won't send a statement of what they take in and where it goes...  Take a hike!

Call comes in but no one leaves a message. I do not answer the call because I do not know anyone at the NRA or do not care to answer it. I am already on do not call lists and if it is a telemarketer, they should stop calling me.

Call all the time! I am not and nra member nor a republican nor my husband leave us alone!

They call us EVERY SINGLE DAY - have been for months.  We are on the NDNCL, doesn't matter.  We've asked politely, screamed, cursed, yelled, begged, for them to stop calling us and remove us from their list.  Yeah, as I type this, I am just anxiously awaiting our daily phone call.  
I have however reported them to the BBB, and to www.callercomplaints.com.  I am now going thru via Google and adding my complaints on the NRA and their practices for attempting to receive donations everywhere possible.
It makes me sad that an organization that SHOULD be so wonderful protecting our rights from the Constitution has turned out to have such an ugly, horrible name and reputation.
We'll still own guns and still support hunting, just not via the NRA.

Have been receiving 1-3 calls per day for the last several weeks; caller always hangs up whether a person or the answering machine picks up.  Called the number back and received a recorded message about the NRA. Emailed the customer service contact for NRA.org listed at their online site.  No reply.  Apparently the NRA has no interest in fixing the problem.  Am on the Do Not Call list and filed a complaint with the FTC.  Harrassing calls continue.

I have been a member of the New York Do not Call List since it was introduced.  Names and numbers from the New York list were automatically transfered to the National Do Not Call List when it was created.  Every confirmed telemarketer who calls my home telephone is reported to the Federal Trade Commission as being in violation of these lists.  Political organizations and charities are unfortunately exempt from the list.  Some go as far as to obtain this list for the purposes of telephone solicitation since it's legal for them to do so.

I wrote to the New York State Consumer Protection Board to ask them to intervene with an unrelenting number of hang-up's on my answering machine made by the National Rifle Association, Caller-ID 703-656-9940.  They have been calling every day, weekends and odd hours included, for at least six months.  I had written the NRA to ask them to stop, which they did for about a week before starting right back up again.

All which follows is the unembellished response to my letter to the Consumer Protection Board by the National Rifle Association.

Dear [Consumer Protection Board],

I am writing in response to the above-referenced file number and [Henry's] complaint.  [Henry] requests that the NRA "stop calling."  Upon receipt of your letter, NRA added [Henry's] name and contact information to our internal "Do Not Call" list.  This should produce the requested result.

I would note that our call logs show that [Henry] never actually spoke to anyone who called him and, instead, all calls were picked up by an answering machine.  If anyone requests to be added to our "Do Not Call" list, we gladly do so.  We do not wish to bother those not wanting to be called nor do we wish to waste resources doing so.

I would note, however, that NRA is a not-for-profit 501(c)(4) organization.  As such, NRA, along with other similar organizations, enjoys certain exemptions when it comes to the National Do Not Call Registry and related United States Code provisions and regulations. (See, e.g., 47 U.S.C. § 227(a)(4) which provides, in part, that "The term telephone solicitation... does not include a call or message ...by a tax exempt nonprofit organization [such as the NRA].")

[Henry]  feels that NRA is exempt as a "political organization."  Nevertheless, regardless of the exemption, he filed a complaint with your office as well as with the Federal Trade Commission - complaints which he admits in his letter either have no basis or that he believes have no basis since NRA is "apparently exempt."  Regardless of whatever exemptions NRA enjoys, NRA feels that it is a best business practice to maintain our "Do Not Call" list and to add information to that list when requested.  We did so for [Henry] and would have gladly done so regardless of any complaints, valid or not.

I trust this resolves this matter.
