The caller (recorded message) indicated they were with the IRS and that their attempts to send me certified mail had resulted in the mail being returned.  They indicated that the IRS was going to proceed with a lawsuit against me for either short paying or not filing tax returns.  They provided a return phone call number (which was similar to the number they called from) and wanted me to return their call to 'stop' legal action.

same thing for me.  I called back from a different number and when I refused to give them my phone number and told them I thought it was strange that they would call me they hung up.

I received the same type of call, same number.  They wanted to know if I had an attorney to come to court with me, by the time I finished with them, they hung up on me.  check out the IRS web site and report it to tigta (treasury inspector general for tax administration.  If you call them at the number provided, they say irs if you call them from a blocked number they say hello!!!   I thought I would start calling them for a while...
