Likely scenario:
Santa Monica resident visiting Disneyland has got an app on their smart phone. They enter the payphone number, and the number they want to call, and press enter, The app connects the payphone to the desired number, they both ring. The app reports the caller ID of the payphone, facilitating anonymous harassment.

i havent even had my NEW cell phone number 1 DAY and already i have gotten this call and 7 others ( two invalid 11 digits numbers and at least spoofed disconnected number). i am not going to setup my voice mail for a week and see what that does. .

I received a call from 714-535-1665 and the number is not familiar to me

got a call from this number-- caller ID said pay phone-- caller was hard to hear but sounded foreign and mentioned something about education-- I think-- it was hard to hear him and I hung up after telling him that I couldn't really hear him.  Must have been some sort of scam-- who calls from a  pay phone if it is a real business?  Area code is California.

Just got a call from this number. unfamiliar and not answered..   no message left.

We live in southern Alberta, Canada.  We received
a call this morning from a heavily accented fellow who said his name was "Jason Reid".
He said our computer had been compromised (our word, not  his) through the windows system, and that there was something in there that was going to slow it down, then make it crash.  

We are not too savvy on computer issues, but can smell a scam a mile away!  He had me sitting in front of my computer which I already was (my husband had answered the call and grinning, passed the phone to me).  "Jason" had me look on my keyboard for the key with the four little squares (Windows) on it to the right of the control key.  

This part is funny....he asked me to press it with "my tongue", so I started to laugh because I thought it was one of my friends playing a trick on me.  Then I realized he had said "thumb" with an accent.  By then it was too late....he said he thought I was "joking" with him and so he said goodbye and hung up.  

I must go....my computer is slowing down at a rapid rate and is ready to crash!

Definately a fraud. Jason sounds like he is from India or Pakistan, claiming he calls from 'Windows'.
When I told him that he was a fraud he hung up on me.

I got a call from that number too, it was a man with a very thick India accent,being very pushy and aggressive trying to tell us that something was critically wrong with our computer (PC) and we do not even have one!!!! we use a friend's unregistered laptop lol!!!  we did not get far enough in the conversation to hear what he was trying to sell,we just told him to leave us alone.

India lady called - hard to understand.  Went on and on about my computer having problems.  It was near midnight, so I hung up on her.  Fraud!!

I've receive a call from that number I want to know who was calling me

Received this call also.  Told him I didn't own a computer, there was a pause and he replied "you don't!"   Ended that scam call

Got a call this morning from this number 1-714-535-1665 on my home number in Switzerland and I am american living in switzerland. They just listen didn't say a word I repeated hello hello.. and just hear noise and talk on the background but they didn't want to say nothing. I don't know who are they and how they got my home number and what do they want.

Got a call from this number this afternoon, I picked it up and the person on the other end told me my family was in great danger.

I asked the person what kind of danger, and I got told that there were no time explaining the details right now - I just had to get to a specific place asap!

The person gave me GPS coords, and off I went with my car. When I arrived I saw an old barn, but no one to be seen, I went inside but it was all empty.

I later got hold of my family, and they were okay. Nothing did happen to them.

This was and is definately a scam.

They Lady was talking with a hard indian accent in english. she said that she was calling from London in behalf of Microsoft or she was from Microsoft. I don't remember.
The reason for her call was, that they received frequently information that my home-computer has security-problems.
As I heard, that there are some calls of this kind, I wanted to get her into a trap.
I wanted to know since when, and which version of Windows she is talking about; what she didn't answer.
When I told her, that my computer is at hardware-repair since two weeks (the truth), she hang up quickly.
what a pity. I wanted to know more about how there fraud works and to sell her down to the river.

This number I do not know, I received on September 4, 2014 at 4:42pm. I hung up and ignored this.

I'm in Sydney, Australia and got a similar scam call - someone claiming to be from an online pharmacy (couldn't catch the name through the accent)  with an order I made online (I've never ordered drugs online!)

virus on your Windows computer scam

Got a pre-recorded message from this number twice already claiming to be from the IRS and that they are in the process of filing a lawsuit against us.  They want us to call an out of the country telephone number.  This is a scam for sure.  Do not dial the number as you will be charged for long distance overseas call.
