This number showed up on my cell phone 716-206-3218 but a message said
it was the IRS and to call 1-800-8297650.  "Who Calls Me" entries indicates that
this is a scam in which they ask for our Social Security Number, date of birth, etc.
Why not just give them my credit card numbers to save them the trouble.  IFS
will always send you a notice through the mail - they won't contact you by
phone unless you already have been working with them.

This number 716.206.3218 left a voicemail to return their call at 800.829.3903.  The automated system said that they were the IRS and to call them by EOB that day.  They are scammers.

This number 716.206.3218 left a voicemail to return their call at 800.829.3903 on my mothers phone.  The automated system said that they were the IRS and to call them by EOB that day.  My mother told me about it and after researching I found that they are scammers - please do not call them and give them any information.  What's sad is that if it wasn't for me, she would have probably called and more than likely give her personal information...

looked up the 800 number it really is the IRS.

First off the main headquarters for the REAL IRS is in Washing DC and every State has their own local IRS Office this # is a NY #, I am in Ohio. This company may be the "IRS" But it is not the real Internal Revenue Service so it is crucial you do NOT give them any information, not only that but the real IRS will not initiate contact over the phone, they will send a notice through the mail ALWAYS no exceptions.  If you don't believe any of us that this is a scam and want to make sure, then go to http://www.irs.gov/ and contact them on their DIRECT # and ask, don't even bother calling the 800 #  this phony company gives and waste your time, anybody can purchase an 800# and call it whatever they want.

Said they were the IRS taxpayer division and they asked a couple of questions of last place I lived and last income tax return wrong info.

716 number, when called back, is disconnected. I called the IRS directly, and they said the 800 number provided by the 716 number (800-829-3903) was a legitimate number from their collections division. Yes, I have issues with the IRS, but I have a payment plan in place and am current with it. What gets me is that they called my WORK number and left this message. They said they were the IRS but the message, when left on my voicemail, did not ask for anyone by name. If this were a main number for a business, how the hell would they know who the call was for? I called the 800 number (valid IRS number), and, after 10 minutes on hold, I hung up. If they really want me, they will send regular mail as thay had done in the past. I seriously doubt the call needed to be "returned before close of business today." What is the person wasn't home?

I'll wait for something in the mail. I'm not going to waste my workday sitting on hold for something fishy.

Like other folks mentioned, today I've received a call from this number and they left a message by saying it's IRS call and I've to respond em by today..Unless I receive a Mail from IRS I won't respond..I think it's a Scam..Scam..

Got the call from 716 area code last night at 9 p.m., caller ID said IRS, they did not leave a message and they have not called back. Wouldn't answer anyway if they did.

This is not a scam. It is truly the IRS. Call the 800 number back, they will ask for a social but you do not have to give it to them.

Got the same call from a Mr. Crain, called the 1-800-829-7650. seems to be a IRS line. Reported it to IRS.Gov on the phishing email address. Dont owe the IRS a dime.

I encountered the same situation....I am thinking that the IRS would say they are the Internal Revenue Service....would they say I am calling with the IRS?  My mail does not say IRS it says Internal Revenue Service.

Same as everyone else. Gives 800# to call and case number. I ingored both. The IRS communicates by mail.

I work for the IRS in Covington, KY. . .and this IS a scam.

If the IRS needs to contact you, and we have your correct address on file, we mail a C letter or a CP notice. In the very rare instances that we DO call taxpayers, we are required to give our Name, Badge Number, and a specific reason for the call (without violating disclosure laws of course).

This number called me at 7:30 this morning, I called it back at 8:30 and the number was disconnected.  No message was left.

This is actually not a scam but a mistake by the IRS in their programming of the Caller ID call back number. IRS does make outgoing calls on some collection cases and leave a case reference # because they cannot legally leave the Social Security # on an unsecured voicemail.
