I received a call from this number. It was USAA, my insurance company, asking me to update my auto policy information. I had received a postcard in the mail to this affect so I believe it is legitimate.

The number 727-373-7491 is for a company called PSI - Professional Surveys Incorporated.  I received a letter from USAA that they would be calling to update information regarding my auto insurance policy.  The questions were basic, but I was still very uncomfortable that a 3rd party company had all my personal information.  I have heard from other reviewers that rates increased shortly after the survey was complete.

A definite scam, intended to: (1) tactically benefit USAA, who hopes to be able to raise your rates (in addition to the money they make selling PSI the 'lead' ... which is your telephone number; and (2) strategically benefit PSI after they harvest your personal information ... for later research, correlation, and eventual sale to third partites.

This is only one of the numbers they use.  Here's links to another number PSI uses.  Don't be fooled.

EXCELLENT, informative post. USAA is doing exactly as described. Don't help them raise your rates and profiting by data mining your personal information as well as selling it to the next round of bidders.

    Getting Annoyed with USAA
I got a postcard or two in the mail from USAA saying I should expect a call from PSI.  I don't know why I need someone to review my policy.  I review it every 6 months and if I have any questions I would call USAA (haven't changed policy in years).  I have now gotten a few calls from this and other numbers.  This caller ID was simply "Florida".  One left a professional message while others have just left background noise messages.  I find this very unprofessional on the part of USAA.  My parents got me started on USAA but left for something better.  I may start looking around too though I have been quite pleased before now.

PSI will also use a different phone number each time they try to call you. It's all about USAA raising your car insurance. I told them i have no changes from the last survey and they would not accept that answer. So i said I don't have time right now.I would assume they get a portion for any insurance increase they squeeze out of you.

The above post were helpful.  I did not provide any information and called USAA and asked them to edit my account to restrict third party callers.  As always, the USAA representative was helpful and said she updated my account to prevent further calls from third party vendors.

Am a 38+ year USAA member and have been getting called by PSI for several years. I have called USAA and asked them to not have PSI call but no such luck. Worst case was when kids were at home (pre-college), PSI changed my youngest child to be the primary driver on a luxury/performance car despite the fact that I told them he was not allowed to drive it. Called USAA and the lady took 25 minutes to correct all of the information in my account and reduced the PSI-associated price hike from almost $2500 every 6 months down to the $1200 range it had been previously. I ignore their calls, but have not been successful in getting USAA to keep PSI from calling.

I have been assured by PSI and USAA that there is no percentage take that is paid if PSI is able to gather info that causes a rate hike in my policy. I tend to believe USAA but I'm not dealing with PSI any longer after a couple of screw-ups on their part that caused premium increases. Also have not been able to keep them from calling even though I tell USAA I will not talk to them and do not want them calling the house.
