This is certainly Portfolio Recovery Assoc. a debt collection agency that tries
to collect debts that are WAY beyond the Statute of Limitations and so are
uncollectable in Court. DO NOT RESPOND TO THEM IN ANY WAY - DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM
- JUST HANG UP AND LOG THE CALL - THEY TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE ELDERLY AND POORLY-INFORMED PEOPLE. They are DISGUSTING bottom-feeders!

I just received this call, I did not answer and they hung up before ans. machine could pickup. No message left.D6

Portfolio Recovery is a Jamican Phone Scam.  There are many numbers that they use to get you to bite.  If you answer just one of these calls it will tell you to call another number.  Not only do you get charged for the minute that you answer the call that gives you another number to call, but if you are as foolish and naive as I was you will end up getting a bill in upwards of $200.  I suggest that if this happens call your provider immediately and let them know that this was part of a jamican phone scam.  AT&T had remarkable service.  They issued a credit memo and within a month the charges were taken off of my bill.  The downside to the bogus numbers is that there are many more.  My rule of thumb at my house, is that unknown name or blocked calls or even numbers that show up on your caller id with unknown origin....DONT ANSWER IT!  You may have to pay.  BEWARE and keep this site alive.  It has saved me many times.

I just submitted a response to 757-961-3544. The number just came in again. No message and hung up.  I do not know how they do this, but there are many numbers that they use.  Do not be fooled by these unknown callers.  Protect yourself and people around you.

I just started getting calls from this company a few days ago so I added their number to my blocked numbers (I have comcast for my home phone service you can just dial *60 and wait for the prompts to add numbers on your block call list, once you add a number they can no longer get through to you).

I keep getting this on my cell phone and I don't know where they got my number because I rarely give it out.  Anyway, now that I know its a scam, I will put it on my blocked list.

I received a call from Chad from Portfolio Recovery today, what a joke.  I would not "verify" any of my personal information to an unknown caller, he affirmed that he was from a publicly traded company and I could check my newspaper to verify that, when I continued to deny his requests he then proceeded to read back to me my full Social Security Number (without verification that I was me.)  He said that they had purchased a debt from US Cellular which until today I had no knowledge of.  After some coaxing I was able to get a vital piece of information, this alleged debt was from 1999, I thought it very odd to receive a collection call for a debt from 10 years ago.  So, I took this guy's rudeness to attempt to see if this was a valid debt or not, but that stopped when I asked him if he would provide an unknown caller with payment information for an unverified debt, his reply to me was, "I take care of my bills and am on top of my debts."  At that point I had enough and hung up on Chad.

I then called back the number on my caller id and spoke to the woman who answered (no name provided,) she was very apologetic for Chad's rudeness and attested that his conduct was uncommon for the company.  She then tried to get me to give my SSN, but I refused and she settled on taking my phone number.  I supplied my new mailing address and informed her that I would not pay anything until I see some documentation on the debt.  She apologized once again and then hung up.

I get these calls as well, but I just ignored them. THey also use the phone numbers 7579613544, 8778030008,7579613546,8669407640, 7573216281,7573216280. Its ridiculous.

They call as unknown and they call over and over and never leave a message.
Who are they and why are they calling!!!!!!!!!

Portfolio Recovery is NOT a scam. I have done business with them regarding old debt. They were easy to work with and were legit.

This is most definitely a portfolio-recovery or other type of illegal-scheme scam-caller. Do not answer, block the call, do not respond or give them any information in any way. You are only working against yourself if you do! I warn you- "portfolio recovery" is a bunch of threatening, lying scum that bully people, lie to them, and try to collect ancient debts that are legally uncollectable - i.e. you don't have to pay! they can't sue you!

12 years ago my wife went through a divorce with her first husband. They had a credit card with charges of $5000.00 that went unpaid. My wife, after the court hearing was found responsible for half ($2500). She then contacted the credit card company and they were so happy to hear from  the pay off amount was less then $2000.00. She paid off the card and that was that.
About 5 years ago, we started getting calls from Portfolio Recovery saying she still owed the money. She even faxed than showing the debt was paid. The calls stop for a few months, but they have been calling again, and again, and for the past 3 years, they call, and call and call.  Can you believe that? Just like the previous posters say, these guys are complete scammers.

I received a call last night.  The girl asked to speak to Jaime "something and I told her she had the wrong number.  She asked again. I told her it was the wrong number.  She then asked how long I had the number. I then told her it was the wrong number and hung up.
I contacted my local phone company to see if there was a way to block the calls. (This is the 2nd from them) They said no.  I am also on the Do Not Call list and have filed complaints with them.  (Like that does any good)
There's nothing you can do to stop them from calling short of threatening to file a harrasement suit against them with your local police and their local police.
If they call again I will definitely tell them I'm filing a complaint.

I called Portfolio Recovery Services Corporate number at  1-888-772-7326 (local) 757-519-9300.  I spoke to a very rude girl in customer service and told them not to call again and that if they did I would be filing harrasment charges against them.  She told me to go ahead and do that and to call the
poh-leese now.  They need to stop harrassing people!

Caller refused to identify what organization they were from.  Calling my house, I have a right to know who is using my resources and tying up my time and waking my kids!
