I received a cold call this morning from a John Clark from World PC Tech. He claimed that our computer had picked up a virus from the internet which would eventually cause our computer to crash. He wanted to "guide" me through the process of fixing the problem. I asked him several different questions which seemed to fluster him. That may be because he spoke with a very heavy accent. While I was talking to him I typed in the name of his supposed company and learned that it was a scam which charged fees for fixing nothing, and also gave him complete access to my personal information. I asked for his name and telephone number, which he readily gave me (extension 105, located in Los Angeles, CA) and told him I would call the company to verify. I ended the call.

I have never heard of a Microsoft tech calling a customer to fix a problem that was not reported by the customer, first.

    not computer savy
I too received a call from someone at this number.  Because of the accent I did not ge the name of the first individual...he said there were corrupted windows files and i should go through a set of steps with him.  I asked him to repeat where he was from and he repeated that he is a computer tech contracted by windows and they have received a critical error.  He could walk me through some things.
Being a little (my daughter may argue that) naive I went through some of the steps reminding myself not to do or give any personal information.  The he said oh my thats not good i think you have big problems that if you don't fix them you will corrut your computer completely.  He put me on hold.....

the supervisor, Angel came on the phone... stated that i need to fix this problem and i could pay 250 for 3 years or 350 for life...hmmm
I told her that i am not the decision maker and that i would need to get my daugher to call them back as it is her computer and her commitment... (man do i feel old now! using my daugher as a defense of something I know nothing about).  She continued to tell me how nice if would be of me as a mother to surprise her with cleaning and keeping safe her computer....... hmmmmmmmmm. I asked for the phone number and i would have my daughter call back.
Now that i am off the phone and did not give my credit card i may just tell her.  DO NOT FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!!!
This started my search and i found these reports.

    Beware!!
Got a phone call from this same number.  I could not understand this man and when I did he told me Microsoft contacted them to call me because I have heavy virus in computer.  I told him I did not have a problem and he continued to tell me I did.  Would not let me get a word in edgewise.  I just told him to give me his number and I would call back to verify who they were.  He gave me 760-269-3834.  When I called that number another man "Mike" answered.  Beware they are very persuasive and act like they know what they are talking about.

.I too received a call from "Angel Smith" and she told me that Windows had contacted her company regarding some serious problems with my computer and I had to correct it immediately or my computer would infect other computers and likely crash.  The charge for their work was $250 U.S. and billed thru ECSuite, LLC  I did go ahead with this work!!!!!!
Yesterday, I got another call regarding the same matter.  Upon opening the so called infected files, as I had done in the past, I see that all the files they were to clean up were still sitting there.  After refusing to pay any money to "clean" the files in my computer, he (not sure of name???) hung up on me.
THIS IS A SCAM!!!!  NO CLEAN UP AND NO MONEY BACK

I received a call today from "Sam George" from "Windows online technical support" telling me that he had recieved a report that my computer had critical errors and that if I sat at my computer he would walk me through the steps so that I would not damage my computer any further. I asked him again where he was from and he repeated the name and added California. I said him how he had my phone number and he read my number back to me with my husbands name. I asked what my name was, he didn't know, but as it was my computer with the critical error he wanted to help me fix it. I asked him for his phone number and he gave me 760 269 3834 and to ask for ext 103. I rang Microsoft and they are aware of this scam and repeated the conversation I had with Sam word for word. Microsoft do not contact customers in this manner and if their is a security issue with your computer, they would not charge any money for the service. Ask Questions, Always!

I received a call from this number and my wife took a message.  I called back and asked for "Andy" extention 101 and was told he would have to call me back.  I asked for the name of the company and the guy mumbled something about Windows.  I asked again and again a mumble.  I told him that I suspected this was a scam and not to call me back.  He said something about that I could keep my virus on my PC.  I told him thanks, I will do just that and he quickly hung up.

Received a call from Virtual PC World about my mothers computer, (Somehow got my families name???). Luckily I was able to take the call, it was a guy with a thick Indian Accent. I asked for his number, who he was calling from, and why he was calling. Said they detected a major problem on her computer and they wanted to help. I asked how they knew that, they said she installed some software.

I figured it was a scam. Took the number down, hope these guys cut it out.

Got a call from 999 910 0126, a woman with a strong Indian accent telling me there was a virus in my windows operating system and I urgently needed to get it fixed. I played along - she said her company was WorldTech in Los Angeles. They had received my number because it had been linked when I purchased my computer, but she couldn't say which computer ("How many computers do you have?" Me:" More than one...") She had no info except that the (router?) had picked up the infection and they had got my number to call. I asked if they were associated with Microsoft - she said no, that Microsoft was a softwear company and this was an infection with the windows operating system (!) I asked why my antivirus programs had not caught it and she said it was an infection, not a virus (!!) If I would get on my computer, she would help me identify the infection. I said my computer was off, but could I call back later. She told me her name was Christine and her number was  760 269 3834 x106. She sounded somewhat knowledgeable and had a ready answer for everything, but I assumed scam. Looks like I was right.

    Concerned
Today I received a call from a man named Michael who told me my computer is sending Microsoft messages that my computer has infections. He has a very thick accent and is hard to understand. I questioned him a few times do you work for Microsoft and was told they work for Microsoft Tech Support System. He told me he would connect me to Angel who would further assist me. While talking to Angel she asked to connect to my computer to remove the Infections. I asked her what the name of her company is? She told me World PC Tech. I did a quick search for the company name on line and found a message that said this is a scam and they will charge you. I asked her, are you going to charge me a fee? She said yes $199.00. I told her I found a message on line that stated the company is not with Microsoft and they will try to charge you a fee. She asked for me to read what I found on line. I told her she should be ashamed of herself for trying to charge me $200.00 for something I can do on my own and wasting my time. Right after I hung up, my phone rang with their number. The man on the phone introduced himself as Sam and called me an A******. I hung up. Two minutes later he called again and I asked him to stop calling. He threatens me, I said are you threatening me and he said yes, I asked him again are you threatening me, and he said yes again. I told him I was calling the police and he called back two more times.

I got a call from this same company claiming that my computer had somehow magically contacted them about being infected with all kinds of viruses. He said he was from Microsoft ITT department, which is a nonsensical nomenclature. He asked if I wanted to save my computer from the viruses and I said no, I enjoy watching computers have viruses, that's why I bought it. From the silence that followed I wager he was not expecting that response, and then bid me good day.
