Automated message, bogus offer of cruise tickets for completing a survey about "green" companies and technology. I tried to press several numbers in order to get a live person to ask what company they represent. Call was automatically ended.

I heard if you just keep pressing ### that will mess up their phone system. FYI ;-)

No , urban myth , more likely to mess up your own phone. Best get a call blocker to bar bogus numbers.

Bogus Caller, automated announcement. From someone who works on Enterprise Large Scale Phone Systems (me), dialing anything on an announcement doesn't do anything. It's not going to break, harm, or otherwise confuse any phone system. It'd be like me walking up to you and saying "Cheese" instead of "Hello". You'd say "I don't understand". You could repeat the cycle a few times, and eventually someone will "give up" and part ways. The phone system will do the same, and if you think you're 'occupying' it's time or resources, you're not. These people buy these massive systems to do nothing but call numbers all day long by the hundreds and thousands. You aren't really slowing them down. The best thing to do is use a call blocker or call filter. If you receive an automated call on a cell phone, report it to the FCC. Especially around the holidays, these scammers call more often because fewer people will take the time to file a complaint.
