just get busy signal when call is returned - HorseLover| 1 replyThis number called me today - he said my computer's number had been changed and he was from Microsoft, wanted to help me. I told him he was a spammer and to leave me alone.
He actually called back and said he was not a spammer, then he started breathing heavy and pushing buttons to make noises, at which time I hung up on him.
I did not try to call him back.- Caller: 787-676-5656, he said Microsoft
- EvaReceived called from 7876765656 stating that my computer had been deactivated. Said I needed to verify my license number so computer could be activated again. Wanted me to get in front of my computer and she would walk me though for the license information. I questioned why she was calling, who she was calling for and what company she was calling form. She did not answer any of these questions just kept stating that my computer had been deactivated.
- GPWife took the call. Caller was muffle mouthed Indian. "Your computer's been compromised". Wife asked "who do you represent?" Did not get a straight answer. Handed phone to me, I listened for a couple of seconds and told the turkey to go f**k himself and have a Happy Thanksgiving.
- cfeThe caller told me something was wrong with my computer license. When I asked what company he was from, he said he was from WWW, the World Wide Web. Which is funny, because of course, that's not a company.
- older person| 1 replytold me my computer was deactivated and wanted to know if I was near the computer. I played along and said yes. When I said yes he started to give me an ID code 888dca60-fcoa-11cf-8fof-... There was more but I told him it was too many numbers and I had to go. He hung up.
- Eddie replies to older personLucky escape. The number he would have given you as "ID" is the Windows Licence number, which is the same on all computers which run Windows. He would have told you where to find the number on your machine and Lo! and Behold! it would have been the same. Anyone who cold cals about computer problems is a scammer, there are no exceptions. Check out the Microsoft website.
- Vicki (daughter of older person)Foreigner called my mom's house at 8:30 am on a Saturday and pulled the same stunt. It was VERY NOISY in the back ground like he was calling from a mall or something - certainly not an office setting. Any way, he knew my mom's name and said her computer was deactivated by Microsoft. She handed me the phone. I asked him where he was calling from and he said "world wide web". He proceeded to tell me the same thing and that I needed to get a pen, write down a license # that he would give me, and then go turn on the computer. Knowing that we have Norton 360 on my mom's computer, I told him that was ridiculous. I told him he was a scammer and I hung up on him.
- Call type: Prank
- CarolHe called asking for my mom. Then would not say who he was and hung up. I tried to call back but line was busy.
- Leroy replies to HorseLoverSame guy called 10 minutes ago, asked for my wife. She passed in May of 2013. Same tale of wool.
- OshMy 90 year old mother received a call from 787-676-5656 this morning. They told her that the computer had been deactivated. When my mother asked where she was calling from the lady on the other end of the line said she was calling from Columbus, OH. Living in OH, she knew the 787 area code was not local. After mother talked to them for a few minutes I got on the phone and asked what company she worked for. She would not answer me. I asked again, still no answer to the question. She said we needed to get in front of the compromised computer and she would wait. I told her since she could not answer the simple question as to what company she worked for to quit calling and hung up on her.
