I just got a call saying my account was flagged for security purposes and to enter my account pin number...  HANG UP

NEVER GIVE OUT PERSONALLY IDENTIFYING INFO ON A PHONE CALL YOU DID NOT INITIATE.

my wife and i both rec'd a call from this number about an hour ago. it was an automated recording claiming to be from sprint saying that our acct was flagged for security purposes and to enter the pin number to the acct. we did not comply and i immediately called sprint. they said that it was a phishing attempt to gain access to our acct. they also said that sprint would NEVER ask for our pin number on any kind of an outbound call from them and thus you should never give ANY kind of information to ANY caller that called you. the only time any identifying information is required by sprint is when YOU are calling THEM. the rep said that sprint does do outbound calls regarding certain acct issues - mostly past due accts. but they do not require any identifying information about the acct (other than "may i speak to mr. smith please"). the rep also said that ALL outbound sprint calls show the caller id phone number as 888-211-4727. the rep said that you do not have to cooperate with any inbound call from sprint because you have the option of hanging up and calling back in to be sure you are talking to sprint.

what this rep said fits in with standard procedure for all legitimate businesses. they all follow the same rule of NEVER asking for personally identifiable acct information on a contact initiated by them.

ONLY GIVE OUT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION ON CONTACTS *YOU* INITIATE THRU METHODS SANCTIONED BY THE COMPANY YOU ARE DOING BUSINESS WITH.

this includes phone calls, email, text msgs, web links, and paper postal mail. do not respond to calls, texts, emails, or click on links sent to you in any manner. always discontinue the contact and re-initiate it yourself to first ensure you have reached the proper contact channel before giving any information--

-- don't respond to a call you receive and don't call back the number that called you, always look up the phone number for the company to be sure you are calling the correct number and call them back.

-- don't click reply to an email, start a new one

-- don't click a link, rather close your browser, reopen it and manually type in the web site url

-- don't reply to texts or paper mail, instead call into the company and verify their intent to contact you.

Phishing scam

Just received a call from this number and I am not a spint carrier .... don't give out any information and hang up immediately or better yet ... DON'T EVEN ANSWER.

Called, no message.

This is a caller who is asking to verify my Sprint PCS account and requests me to enter in my PIN number (I'm on AT&T, so being asked for Sprint PCS was strange). This is definately a fraudulant number and do not enter in anything!

As soon as I I'd a bogus/phishing # per posts like those here, I add them to my phone contacts list with the name 'DO NOT ANSWER.' That makes it easy to know to ignore them the next time they call. :-)

Same call as everyone else. I'm not a Sprint customer so I just hung up.

just got a call from this number on my cell phone.  No one on line when I answered.  I'm glad I checked out the number, now I KNOW I won't be answering it.  Wouldn't it be nice if these people would put as much effort into doing an honest days work as then evidently do in trying to scam honest people?

This number just called my cell, rang twice, then hung itself up.
Unusually strange, as I got to my phone and then the call ended.

I wish these idiots would quit calling and just stop trying to scam people!

Got a call from this number. Looked it up and got this website. Thank goodness there are websites like this out there. Now I know it's a phishing scam. Thanks!

The entire family of 5 just had our all of our phones ring with this # showing up.  They asked for account numbers. The date was 3-11-11 at 10:00 PST.

I just had the same call...10:05 PST California. I am a Sprint customer. I didn't answer, just called Sprint to report and it's after hours.

Nice we all get these calls, but who is doing anything about stopping them. Evidently Sprint doesn't care, but you would think they would because it is their name that is being used.

I received a call from this same # around 9 pm PST on 3/11/11.  Ignored call and they didn't leave a message. Funny thing is, I am with Verizon, but recently ported the # over FROM Sprint.  I ported my elderly mother's # over, too... Just hope she didn't fall for it if they called her.  I better talk to her right away and educate her about phishing!

I got a call yesterday 3-11-11 10:20 eastern time from this same number. I didn't pick up but I called it today and it says "please check the number and dial again". I reported it immediately to Sprint. They said they would report it to the fraud department. I will follow up on this issue though.
