Bay Area Credit is a scam trying to get money. They called me about my ATT bill that was already paid, and att has their own collections department. They don't use outside agencies. find a way to report them.

Thanks for this post. I rec'd hang up calls and finally they answered and claimed to be trying to collect a debt for AT&T, despite my argument that my bill was fully paid. I refused to pay them over the phone as I paid my bill two weeks ago and the amount they wanted was not my usual amount. I suspected a scam.

This company keeps calling my cells over and over. The really messed up thing is they are asking for other people. Not just one person but multiple people. They call constantly and I've asked them over and over to stop with no luck. So I just looked up some information and guess what? I'll be mailing a cease and desist and from now on keeping track of when they call. If they do not stop after the letter (certified) arrives then I'll be suing them for stress and what ever else I can come up with in small claims court. Sick of these guys thinking they can get away with things.

My boyfriend was getting calls from them, and then called AT&T to figure out if they were legit.  Apparently, he did owe AT&T money for his last bill and didn't know it.  I guess AT&T can't auto debit your checking account (this only applies if you were on autopay) once you close your account with them, so you have to do it manually over the phone.  He paid the bill directly with AT&T

bear in mind they also may not be calling to collect a debt you owe, but rather one that someone else owes.  I just got a call from them regarding a debt my sister owes.  if you call them back, say you received a call from them.  don't give them your name.  they may ask if the number they dialed is yours, say yes, and they'll ask for the person they're looking for.  then you'll know.

It turned out  to be a collection for ATT. which I thought they had their own agency but my mistake ,when I moved I stilll owed around 20.00 which I was not aware and tried to tell them that, but they still insisted on getting my credit card info. After a while I just told him to forget it and check with ATT, because I was going to pay them direct NOT him, boy did he have a fit he did not like it one bit. Can you you believe that, all over a bill of   $23.89. Anyway if it is a bill from Att. just pay ATT.  direct

This number was calling my 11 year old son's cell phone.  I called the number back but the recording didn't identify the company.  The recording said they were closed even though I was calling during their posted business hours.  Has to be a scam as we do not owe any debits to anyone.

Called for someone who has been deceased for 8+ years. Tried fishing for information and wouldn't say why they are calling. Asked for "Power of Attorney" from decedent... when I said people don't usually have a POA for post-death matters he said, "I know this, sir..." Well if you did, then why did you ask? Had tell-tale signs of a scam...

A lady called stating she was calling regarding Bary Area Credit. I asked her concerning what, because I never heard of you. She stated because you have a debt, but could not tell me with who. I asked her her name she stated Denise Green with a very middle eastern voice. I explained to her I know it is a scam, and to not call my phone anymore and I was reporting them to the Federal Trade Commission. How are you going to have an American name with a foreign Accent. WOW!

ok, they left a message for my mom saying they wanted to offer her a business opportunity. It was a woman with an Indian accent, I know my mom owes at&t like $40 but it has been less then a month since the debt was due.  If it is a debt collection why the hell would this lady offer a business opportunity, how did they get my number as I live 3000 miles away from my mom and why the hell does she need to lie.

U can also call the Attorney Generals office I think its the Department of Finance they will give u the # and they will file a complaint against them 4 u. They are not allowed to call a cell phone anyway after they are notified that it is a cell. Plus they are harassing u and U can sue them for it. Tell them u ARE contacting a lawyer and suing them! I had the same problem with another co calling my cell, plus they refused to give me co name-also against the law once u ask for it! I told a company this and contacted the department of finance-they haven't called me since! and they were calling every day and every day I told them wrong # don't call my cell- it didn't stop till I took that step. Also make a copy of your cease and desist letter, and your receipt 4 sending it certified-good luck :)
