- bc| 8 repliesA woman called and left a message to call the security department and left 800-239-7054. I returned the call and they asked me to fax a copy of my driver's license. When I told them I'm not going to fax anyone a copy of my driver's license the woman hung up on me. This is NOT a legitmate number. A real representative from Capital One would not ask for a copy of your driver's license or hang up on you when you refused to provide it.
- Caller: Capital One
- md| 1 replyThis is NOT Capital One's fraud department. They're phishing for credit card numbers--do NOT give them your number if they call you. Instead, hang up, call the number on the back of your actual card, ask to be transferred to the fraud department and REPORT THEM.
- hn| 4 repliesI received a request letter to contact Capital One Customer Fraud Protection at 800-239-7054. The letter with Logo with No Color. I just google the number and find out any story with this number out there, then indeed there are so much warning about this number. I just throw away the letter, thank to the search technology, google it before you act.
- Ang| 2 repliesReceived a call from this number. Called the corporate number for Capitol One and they confirmed this number is a fraud. Capitol One Corporate number is 1-800-955-7070. Please be careful and never give out your SS# or acct. #. Make the call to the corporate number if you should ever wish to verify a problem.
- JP| 1 replyI was called by “Capital One” from this number. Not having a card with them I was worried someone was trying to open a card in my name. When I called back they told me they need my SS #. I said look me up by my name but was told they could only look me up by SS #. What a load of BS. I told the woman to give me her SS # and asked her what planet she came from to expect me to fork over my personal information. A real person from Capital One would not be so rude.
DON’T give these swine any information. - Settingtherecordstraight| 8 repliesYou guys are all a bunch of dumbass liars, or plain stupid. The number is completely legit, verified through their main number. If you're going to be a moron, do it someplace else.
- Settingtherecordstraight| 4 repliesBTW, here is a website confirming your stupidity:

- Jim| 4 repliesDo you really believe everthing here you read on the internet? The Fraud Identify Theft phone number for Capital one is 800-239-7054 that is a true number for Cap One Fraud Dept. I work there.
- JaneI just called Capital One and they have no 1-800-239-7054 phone number. For us, this is the number the phone message wants us to call. The credit dept, banking dept, and fraud dept. could all not find this phone number.
- TRUE| 3 repliesI have received a message on my VM asking me to call back to Capital One's fraud dept at 1-800-239-7054. Since I did not recognize the number, I called the number on the back of my credit card. Rep advised me that I needed to be transferred to the fraud dept. When I spoke with a rep in the fraud dept they confirmed that 1-800-239-7054 is a legit number for Capital One to take you directly to their fraud dept without having to deal with customer relations first.
- jessciai didnt think it was a legit number, they asked for way to much information but when it came down to it, it is a real number. I work at a bank where a customer had to come in and have me call so CapOne could verify him and his social security number. I agree, it is a bunch of info to get over the phone, but it is legit.
- Lisa| 2 repliesThis is NOT the fraud Department....If you get this phonecall, you need to call the corporate office and ask if the phone number is actually Capital One's Fraud Department....DO NOT give out your social. These people are scheming [***].
- Ticked off| 1 replymy mom in another state received a call from this number after i applied for a card. i did not use her phone number on my app -- how did they get her phone number? now i am worried this is a scam and my credit will be ruined! I stupidly called back...did not give dob or soc or even city/state for addresses. woman told me info only a person who was looking at my app would know....so confused!
- concernedI called the main # of my card. The operator couldn't verify the 239-7054 #, but he transferred me to the fraud dept. The girl there told me it's their direct line. This is sure confusing based on what everyone said here. Anyway, she didn't ask me for full SSN, and her questions are consistent with what I experienced before. But to be careful, I will suggest calling the main # and have them transfer you. Never hurts to do that.
- Alexa| 1 replyI am a fruad investigator and I can attest that this is a fradulent number. I also received a letter with the capital one letterhead that was not in color and appeared to be a copy. It requested that I fax a copy of my driver's liscence, my social security card, and a recent utility bill showing my current address.
Please, please, please, don't ever give anyone that kind of information. The credit card company would never ask you to provide these things, so if you are ever asked to, you can bet it's not legitimate. Report it immediately to the customer service number provided on the company's website or an the back of your card.
Protect ourselves please!! - Alexa replies to Ticked offAfter I applied for my card, they called my grandparents asking questions and insisting that I call back. I also didn't use their number on my application. They should never ask for secure information and you should never give it over the phone.
- willnotbebulliedAccording to Capital One, this is a REAL phone # to thier fraud department. It took me 3 phone calls & and email to find out, but they did confirm it was one of their phone #s.
I will add, however, that the customer service representatives were extremely insistant that i give them my SSN IN FULL & when I was reluctant, they got kind of nasty with me.
One would think people that work in a fraud department would understand people giving out their personal info so freely.
I am GLAD I don't have a Capital One card & after this experience, I will never have one again!!!- Caller: Capital One
- Helen D. VandemanI was called by this number claiming to be from Capitol One. Though the person who left the msg was a man, the person who answered when I called back was Paula. She asked for my acct number, and I said I didn't know my acct number. Then she asked for my "social" meaning my soc. security #. I said just a minute, and hung up.
- Caller: Capitol One
- jonersbeachi also got a call from these folks right now. she said "my account would be on hold" until i gave her information - but i called capitalone directly and there were no problems. these are FRAUDS!
