Received a call from them saying they were from the State of Illinois and wondering if we moved.  I then said not interested and hung up the woman called me back and started hitting the keys in my ear.  I will be reporting them to my local agency.

Would not tell me who she was calling for...   very, very rude.

Got a call today from them, I picked up and they said they were "from the state of" and then hung up

Got a call on today from this number wanting to know if we moved. Gave some bogus name of their company I can't remember.

got a call from them today asking if we had found somewhere to move to ... staying they were from the state of new jersey.. knew our company name and which town.... they couldn't tell us where the (bogus) information came from

Claimed to be calling from what sounded like the "state development office."
I replied, "I'm sorry, where are you calling from?" and they immediately disconnected.

These people keep calling my work # & hanging up when I answer the phone! ANNOYING!!

This is one of MANY phone numbers being used by an agency that claims to represent various levels of government (both in Canada and in the US).  The want to know if your company is moving/has moved/will be moving/has found a new location, etc.  What they're really doing is fishing for info in order to compile a list of local businesses that may or may not require the services of relocation companies and then selling that list to interested parties.  They've been calling here for as long as I've been working the front desk, six years come September 2012.  I used to tell whoever was calling that I knew this was a scam and they should stop calling, but lately I've taken to giggling psychotically into the phone and then leaving them on hold until they hang up.  In any case, don't worry about offending a potential or current client, these guys are long-time scammers.

Indian accent claimed to be from State of Oregon Economic Development, asked if we had found a new location. I probed for information regarding the reason for the call .. all I got was that "they had been notified of my desire to move" but could not identify who notified them or how they were notified.
I called the number back but 800 254 8888 is not a valid number.  Their engineers must be smart enough to fake the CLID.

Got a phone call form this number today - 3 times!

Claimed to be form the State of Texas Business Development Office.  When I pressured, they insisted they were calling on official state business but all they wanted was when we expected to move.  Would not tell me what the use of the information was...  could hear lots of noise (call center) in background.

I disconnected.  they have now called back twice.

Claimed to be from the State of California Business Development Office regarding if we plan on moving or have moved, and wanted confirmation of our business address.  There was call center noise in the background when he spoke, and it was muted while I spoke.  I asked the caller for the website where I could reach him, and he said it was "internal" and if I would like to speak to a manager or confirm the information.  I refused to confirm, and attempting to receive a yes response for me to speak to his manager, he hung up.  Funny, as I was speaking with him, I did a google search for this information, found similar info profile on your website, and when I entered their number I found this thread.

Our phone sets have caller display. So we don't have to suffer their abuse. Don't waste your time on these low life scammers. Just press the answer button and hang up immediately or do something similar to what Nicole does. I always wonder how low one has to stoop as to defraud people.

We have a 'Special' hold message when they call.

Claims to be from State of California and same thing as others...did you find a new location?  I have this web site up all the time and enter numbers before I even answer, so I said, "Let me tell you! What a time we had!"  She was all ears!!    I continued..." First we made a hop to the left. Then a jump to the right! Then we did the pelvic thrust! THEN we put our hands in tight..."  You get the jist. Being from India, she didn't quite grasp it.  Sure was fun!!  My office mate was peeking over the wall with out of hand curiosity!

I get 1-2 calls from 1-800-254-8888 each week.

They claim to be from the state of Oregon but they refuse to answer any of my questions.

They want to know if we have moved our office or if we are interested in moving locations.

Whenever I ask for information about them they get confrontational and argue with me, then they hang up.

I have asked repeatedly to be removed from their list, but they still call.

In the background you can hear a lot of other people talking and the caller has a foreign accent that they are trying to cover up very hard.

I have no doubt in my mind that this is some sort of scam.

They have called a few times. Although the previous commenters say that they represent a state government office, I have noticed that they are careful not to say the "State of xxx" In my case they identified themselves as the Colorado development office. When I asked if they were a state agency, they repeated what they said.
I believe it is someone looking for commercial real estate leads..

Got a call today from these people only this time they were representing the Business Economic Authority of Georgia. when I asked who was caling he said it was Sam Anderson and gave me a phone number that I could call for verification. He gave me  rewards hotl;ine number! lol He wanted the same info as to whether we were moving . . . obvious scam but I had fun leading him on!

Called claiming to be from the State of Washington Business Development. I asked what branch of the State of WA that their company was affiliated with? She just stated that she was "with the state of Washington asking to "update my company information, i.e. address and phone number." I evaded giving any helpful answers to her. I did however explain to her that the information that she has is indeed very old information, and that if she were in fact employed by the state of Washington- why with my current Washington state master business license, my current L&I insurance, my current city licenses, and every tax agency in the state of Washington did she not have my current address in her all important business files? She apologized to me and said she would check her own files to find our address and see why it was not updated (lie)...*giggle*
