- HECTOR| 3 repliesI was called by "Randy" saying there was a problem with my Target account. The problem is I do not have a Traget account. I told him I would call him back. I got on the net and found the Target website and located an account help number 1-888-755-5856. I called and asked if the number that "Randy" called me from was an actual Target number. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A TARGET NUMBER AT ALL. DO NOT GIVE THESE [***] ANY INFO.
- KatyI was called as well by someone named Greg from Target with a reference number and everything. Who is this??
- Sean| 1 replyI received a call 2 nights in a row from this number saying they were from Target. Gave a reference number and everything. The first time it was "Sara" and the second time, it was "Crystal". Sounds like a scam to me.
- Caller: Target Financial Services
- SandraGot a call asking for me from Abbey from Target. Gave me a reference number and said they were available from 8am - 11pm central time. It didn't sound legit so I did a search and this came up. Afraid to call back. Hope someone can figure out who this is and what they want.

- Aaron| 5 repliesI can assure you that this is actually Target. I spoke with them recently myself. I had submitted an application for a Target card and some of my current information did not match my credit bureau so they called me to verify that I had applied and not someone else using my information fraudulently. If you did not apply for a Target card recently then it is possible they are calling to warn you that your identity has been stolen. I thought it might be fraudulent as well but they did not ask me for any information that could be used to steal my identity and the call was not unsolicited as I had applied for one of their cards.

- sThis number is legit.
It is Target's New Accounts Department.
I applied for a store card Thursday and they called Sunday to verify my details.
The message they leave does sound shady, but I guess they don't want to come across as friendly in case they are dealing with fraudsters.
If you call the main Target Visa number (800-755-5856) they may not know this direct number because they are just given an extension for the New Accounts Department.
If you want to be safe, just call the main number and ask to be transferred.- Caller: Target
- PeebsThe number is completely legitimate. They had left a message on my home phone asking to return the call and it seemed a little fishy to me. When I called back, I got a message stating that they were "Target Financial Services", I was then put through to a person who asked me to verify my name and address, which I gave them (it can be found in the phone book), but then they asked to verify my birthdate and I told her that I was uncomfortable giving that information as I didn't know what the reason for the call was. The woman told me that it was because of suspicious activity on my card, that they flagged. She then named the purchase to me, which turns out was a legitimate purchase made by me. So it seems like it is a general fraud department for Target.

- JY1023| 1 replyyes it is target calling.
A couple of months ago i received a letter in the mail from Progressive Auto Insurance that someone had accessed our personal information and had been fired from the company. The letter advised to sign up with experian to monitor our credit.
Then today i received an email from Experian stating an "alert" that "Retailers National Bank Target" had made an inquiry into my credit.
then just now I received a phone call from 8003188433 asking me about some new credit card application that was just filed two days ago, using my maiden name, my old address, a completely different driver's license, and some digits in my social security number switched around.
target said they will remove the credit inquiry and they advised me to place a 90-day fraud alert with equifax (888-766-0008 or fraudalerts.equifax.com) and also to notify the FTC (877-438-4338). The fraud alert means that companies have to call me before looking into my credit.
Don't know what happens after 90 days though...- Caller: Target new accounts
- NATALIEIts Target thats for sure there legit and if you applied for a credit card for Target you better give them a call or you wont get to use the card. they either say V81 or GC85 beacause its either a app or a acctount. If you dont have an acct with them you should call the credit buro and get your credit report you are a victom of fraud and Target is trying to help you. I should know I work there and Greg and Randy are real emplyees w/ Target new accounts. You are being scammed by fraudsters putting comments on here so that you dont call and put a fraud allert on your credit report so they can use your good name to keep applying for credit. untill you put a stop to it. Good Luck !!

- JohnOkay just got a call again. The first time I didn't pick up. This time they left a voice mail saying it was Sara from target even with a reference number.
- JohnOkay you guys it's legitimate. It's definitely from target. I got the CS number from their website and the lady wasn't familiar with the number. So I told her I recently applied for a target card and she gave me the number for that. I called that and they verified it was them. They even transfered me to their financial department. From there they asked for my address and birthdate just to verify it was me who applied. So they did sound creepy but it's them.
- jackie| 1 replyFRAUD. just called the main Target line on their website and they said they are not calling people to verify account information anymore. I gave them my phone number and they said that a card had not been opened or attempted under that phone number. So this is definitely a scam. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR INFO.

- Dee| 1 replyThis is fraud. They asked for my complete address to verify my account tht it is really me. FIRST OF ALL, I do not and did not apply for a card. Then they said ok were gonna go ahead and void this but I still need your complete address and another impt info that I didn't give him a chance to ask. To verify, they usually only ask for zip codes and such

- John CI got a call from the 800-318-8433 number shortly after I had applied online for a Target RedCard. Couldn't find that number associated with Target anywhere online. So I called the Target RedCard number I had on my card, and the rep there couldn't help me verify the number was legit. She said she had a list of "pages and pages" of numbers used by Target to call customers to verify information prior to issued new credit cards. At one point, the Target rep called the number I had given her, and then came back on the line to tell me it was a legit Target number. I asked how she knew, and she replied, because when I called, they answered Target. Does such a big company really employ such dim bulbs? I pointed out to her, I could re-record the message on my home answering machine to say I was Target, and would she believe that too???
So finally, no thanks to Target's dim bulb, I thought of a solution. Instead of me calling the unknown 800 number I had received a message from, I asked the Target rep to transfer me to the department that handles card verification services, which fortunately she knew how to do, and was able to reach them that way, and know I was really speaking with Target. They had indeed been trying contact me.
But as I pointed out to the two different reps I spoke with, it's pretty bad when the company is making such calls yet offers no way for the customer to verify that the number is really associated with Target.- Caller: Target
- John C replies to DeeIt's certainly possibly that someone else applied for a card using your name or other info, in other words, a fraudulent application. On the Target end, they would just want to get enough info to know for sure that they're really speaking with the real person, thus questions about your identity.
As I and others mentioned above, if you're uncertain it's really Target, call the main Target RedCard number on Target's website and ask to be transferred to the new accounts or fraud department, depending on your situation.
Even if you didn't apply for a card, you certainly don't want Target issuing a card to someone else in your name!!! You'd want to work with Target to make sure that doesn't happen. - BrendaThis turned out to be a legitimate call in response to an application I had filled out for a card. However, I didn't call back 800-318-8433. I called the main number for RedCard as posted on target.com, which is 1-888-755-5856.

- Hella madThey are a bunch of frauds, We called Target after talking to them. Target said they are not calling people for any info. They messed with the wrong person now.
- lin jaynesI 800 318-8433 verified Target #. D.J. called me 3/29/2014 to let me know someone on the internet was trying to open an acct @ Target? in my name, funny thing is, I haven't sought a credit card & or filed for credit since 2000 when I bought a home in WA/State.
I am visually impaired & as I haven't applied anywhere in years, I also have not asked for a copy of my Credit report since then, just assumed all was ok & I don't seek credit anyway @ this point in time?
D.J. very professional & asked nothing personal & or that he didn't already have on the phony app.
He recommended I notify the credit bureaus & place a fraud alert on my credit & that was done immediately , as well as asking anyone ,to call me when someone seeks credit in my name, they will put that request into your credit acct file.- Caller: Target
- YariIt's legit. I applied for a card a few days ago. Got a message today from "Yessenia" from 800-318-8433. I called Target's main number and asked for New Accounts Department. Was transferred over and got the same person that called me and left a message. They only asked to confirm that I did apply, my name, DOB, and address. Nothing else. Account approved.

- Deborah| 1 replyThis is really Target. They called to verify information for an account someone had tried to open and the information given didn't match the credit report. This is how I found out someone (in another state to which I had never been) had applied for several credit cards, cell phones, etc. with my information. They suggested I put a fraud alert on my credit, which I did. When I ran my credit report, I found several inquiries which WERE NOT initiated by me. Thank you to Target for calling to verify the information! Had the other companies which approved credit cards and cell phones done the same, it would have saved me a whole lot of time and energy. Thieves fraudulently use your information then it's up to you to prove it was fraud. Kudos to Target for being pro active!
