They are from PHH and Merril Lynch. Personally, since I don't hold a mortgage with either of these companies and they want my loan numbers or social security number, I think they are just using the terror tactic of a collection agency to get my personal information.

Got a message on my voicemail to call this number regarding my mortgage. I am in China and the FDIC took over my bank during my absence so I thought it could be legit. When I called the number an automated voice asks for my loan/account number or SS#. Since they do not identify themselves and I am current on my mortgage, this strikes me as very odd. I would be very cautious.

they left a note in a sealed (unmailed) envelope at my door with their phone number inside stating that it was important and they were expecting my call today. it said to have my account number ready but they didn't leave an account number. needless to say, it all sounded fishy (and a little scary) and i never even called in the first place.

Yeah, I came home and found a really weird piece of paper affixed to my door.  In English and Spanish, saying Important, Please call, Please Refer to Your Loan Number.  I didn't know what it was, so I blocked the number on my phone and called - it was for "Mortgage Collection Services."  When I got a rep, I asked for what mortgage company, and she said PHH.  I told her what I found on my door knob, and she said, "I'd think they'd have a better way of reaching their customers than that," and I said I didn't have a loan or ANYTHING with PHH in the first place.  ODD.

I had the same thing happen!! Odd yellow envelope hung on my doorknob with IMPORTANT Please Call 1-800-330-0423 Be ready to give your account number and We are expecting your call today! In English and Spanish. I called and was informed it was PHH? I said ok, WHO are you and she said We service your loan now whats your account #? I informed her that I have no loan through PHH and was just calling because of the door flyer, to which she replied PAY YOUR BILLS!!!! Wow. I hung up and still have no clue what just happened?

Guess these people are continuing this scam. I'm a college student and I had one of these stupid yellow envelope door hangers on my apartment door. None of the other apartment doors had one so I was curious. Looked it up and realized this was totally fake. Don't call. They're rude and try to take advantage of us college students WHO DONT HAVE MORTGAGES!

I was in the livingroom in my house near a window and the guy didn't even ring the doorbell. Didn't realize someone was on the porch until my dog started barking. I caught the guy taking a picture of the front of my house. I was alone and didn't want to go out to talk to him. It was extremely creepy and I was a little freaked out. He also didn't even pull into my driveway. We had two cars in our driveway too. There was no reason not to knock. But he left a detail-less flyer stuffed in our door. I looked the number up online to make sure it wasn't a scam and then called. The first thing they ask for is an account number and my social security number without giving me the name of the company. ABSOLUTELY NOT.

They are from PHH Mortgage. I do have an account through them. they are a legit company but i'm sure some hackers use it for other purposes unfortunately. They have always been good with me though. This is the financial department for PHH.

Received a yellow envelope for the 2 time in two months.  Oddly, there was no footprints in the snow that lead up to my door.  It started to snow last night. weird!  Anyway....The info inside the envelope indicated in both English and Spanish with today's date "mortgag co,"  phone number was 800-330-0423.  I looked this info up about what company this number belongs to.  It is PHH Mortgage Co.  I do have a loan with them.  I had made arrangements with a team specifically set up to work with people who want to keep their property but are currently unable to make payments.  That time frame that they gave me is not up yet.  

Last month I got the very same yellow envelope but the number was different, it was still marked as being from "mortgag co" but the number was for 800-635-9698.  When I called the number the greeting was identical to PHH Mortgage but never during the greeting does it state what company you have called.  It is not until you talk with a CSR that they state "Select Portfolio Services"  They wanted my loan number, when I gave it to them, they said that they couldn't find it.  I said, well that is funny if you don't have my loan number but are putting yellow envelopes on my door.  Then they wanted my phone number, and street address, and then lastly my SS#.  I promptly hung with them, then called my PHH mortgage co agent and asked if they had requested the yellow envelope placement on my house.  In horror my agent said that she would never do such a thing.  This was not something that their company did.

I looked into to this further and found many other people with identical situations. These yellow envelopes seem to be a harassment tactic.  

Received same envelope. I am 1 month behind with phh.  I can't believe they would do this. I will call them and clarify.

They are legit. I have a loan through PHH. I had transposed numbers in my payment and they were notifying me so it wouldn't go to collection.

They have called multiple times but no one is on the phone.

Legitimate caller. But they messed up the auto payment.  Hard to understand their accent.  But the are legit, and it all worked out in the end.  So not a scam.  But it took about 30 minutes to prove to them it was their error.

Who is this company! Cannot get a clear answer about what is owed!  Do not know if this is a scam attempt or a legitimate business!

There are mixed reviews on here, and true this is PHH Mortgage, the calls I received were not from PHH.  I have received a call from this number for the last two mornings.  I decided to google the number to see who the call may be coming from.  When I saw it was PHH Mortgage I was nervous since this is who we have our home loan through.  After reading the comments, I decided to call them back.  Apparently the 800-330-0423 is the number to the delinquency department.  The automated system did ask for my loan number.  Since I did not have that available, it then requested my social, which I bypassed.  I received a super nice and friendly customer service agent.  She requested my phone number, my name, the address of the property and only the last 4 digits of my social.  She reviewed my account and wanted to know if I wanted to make a payment.  After explaining that my payment is drafted every month on the 9th, she double checked and confirmed this was correct.  She then wanted to know what was the reason for my call.  When I explained that I had received the two calls, googled the number, saw the reviews, that I wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with my account.  It was in good standings, no late payments, no missed payments, nothing.  She reviewed my account again and stated that there were no notes of calls being made.  Long story short she thanked me for calling and being pro active.  She reported my incident and noted my account.  Remember, your social is not the only thing that can verify information.  Be aware and do not share this information unless it is absolutely necessary.
