- Katharine| 4 repliesCredit Card Fraud Line - Does anyone know if this is a valid telephone number?
- LauraThis is a legitimate number. It's a service banks use. We just got a call from this number today about possible fraudulent activity on my daughter's debit card. We called her bank instead of the 800 number and they confirmed everything. She had ordered some stuff online and the expiration date on her card was wrong so they called to check it out.
- Kathy| 2 repliesI got a call from them July 24, 2008. First thing they asked me for was the Card Number. Of course I refused. I asked him who he was and who he was with and he said he's with my Card Security Services and his company is employed by many banks and my bank is apparently using their service and he just needs to verify recent transactions on my account. I told him I wasnt comfortable giving that out. I told him i would be calling my bank and he advised that they would verify his purpose for the call. To my suprise, my bank did verify that they use this company to monitor fraudulent charges on customers account. I am APPALED that this is how this company monitors fraudulent charges. "Calling people and asking for the account numbers??" Thats the first thing indentity thieves want!!! We have all been warned NOT to comply. When I calle them back I spoke to a different account representative who again, asked for my card number. When I refused she asked for the telephone number where I received the message and then verified my name. She was then able to pull up my account number... or so she said. She then asked me to verify the last 4 of my SSN and the last 2 transactions on the debit card and we ended the call. I told her about the first Representative not effering me any other alternative BUT to give him my account number and I explained AND THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOWN, no one in their right mind would or should give out their debit card account number to someone who calls them!! She said she would mention to management that this is causing distrust and that they should look at changing it.
- Caller: Card Security?
- dennisThis is a valid credit card fraud protection service hired by many banking institutions and Paypal. I received an email from Paypal and a phone message left by this company claiming that they were associated with Paypal. I just my email and my Paypal account prior to returning the call.
- TimI also got a message from this number claiming he was from the security of my credit card. I also called it and the guy asked me for my card number. Of course I said no "I don't think so..bye". I then called the number on the back of my card and it turns there was a fraudulent tag on my card. So, I'd say if you get a call like this return the call using the number on the back of your card.
- AndreaI also got a message from this number that mentioned my banks name. So I returned the call not thinking to much about it. The woman on the other end asked me about some recent transactions (that were mine), then told me that my account had been flagged as fraudulent use, and to call my bank.
- Caller: they didn't give
- Jordan LI just received a call from them today. I let it go into voice mail and then called back after researching the number. They were checking out if everything was okay. The first question they asked was for my cc #, I said no so she asked some follow up questions, last 4 digits of social, address. Then she rattled off the places my card was used today. Everything turned out okay. She was able to confirm the exact time the card was used in each transaction, which was helpful!
I would advise not giving out your credit card number, but try to let them do their job without compromising yourself. - Bob| 1 replyI accidentally missed a payment of $247 to my credit card company and they reported it to this service which in turn denied the use of the credit card. I was really upset since I have always paid my card on time. I contacted my credit card provider and they said that this was in the contract that they could deny any transaction if a payment is missed(it was 10 days past the due date). I asked them where in the contract it stated this and naturally they were unable to do so.
I was then charged with a $30 late fee for missing a $247 payment. Credit card companies deserve to go to hell. - NealThey asked me for my checking account number, I hung up at that point. Called my bank and they said they would never ask for that. This is a fraud, do not give them any information.
- SuzanneIts legit. I got a call today from them verifying a purchase I made. I called my bank first to ensure that it was a valid number and they confirmed. I called them back and they asked for the phone number they left the message on, the last 4 digits of my social and my mothers last name and then cofirmed my last purchase.
- yvonne replies to Bobread your terms & conditions that you signed for in getting you c.c. app. nobodie's going to hell except for your ego
- djrthis number seems legit.
i have used this web site many times in the past to verify strange phone numbers and am taking the time to post as pay back.
called the number back and they asked to verify my phone number that the message was left at. they then asked for my last 4 soc sec. did not give them that info. i asked who they were - first data resources. THEY THEN GAVE ME the last 4 digits on the debit card and the bank that issued it. they told me to call the bank directly. i called the bank and they verified that a large group of visa numbers had been stolen from visa's system and my card was just one of many that they are dealing with.- Caller: first data resources
- NickI received multiple calls from is number. I came up as unknown on the caller ID but the recorded message left this number. They called pretty late at night so i thought it was a scam. I called the number on the back of my card and they told me that the person that called previously was from the fraud prevention dept. They were checking on a few purchases that i made online. Although this number was legit, i still wont give anyone that calls ME any personal info. I will call the number on the back of my card that i know is legit!
- Jenni| 1 reply***SCAM**ALERT*** I received a message from this number, and when I called them back, they couldn't find my phone number (that they left the message on) in their records. They asked for my account number, and I said no. I then called my bank and they said THERE IS NO FRAUD ALERT ON ANY OF MY ACCOUNTS/CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS. I believe that the posts on here claiming that it is a real legitimate number are all part of the scam. The phone number that they left the message on were not attached to ANY of my accounts in any way, so how would they even know to call that number if there were any fraud alerts on my account?
- Larry replies to JenniYou are correct. I also checked with all of my banks directly and there was no fraud. This is a phishing scam according to one of my banks and any posts here claiming it's legit have to be a part of.
- ChattycatThis is a legit number. Got a vm saying they wanted to verify some transactions on my card. I had just made several large purchases. I called the number on back of my card to make sure they could verify the phone number on the vm. They said yes, it was their security dept and they connected me to someone right then. They asked some verification Qs and asked if I had made the purchases.
- Kristen| 1 replyGot a call from them about charges. Number is legit. They did not ask me for the card number, just the number that they left a message on, my name, the billing address and the last 4 digits of my social. Then they stated a couple of recent charges, that I confirmed were mine and everything was fine.
- Pam replies to Kristenthis just happened to me last night, they asked me for my phone number, and verified my activity on my card, and i found out someone tried using my card for 640.00 at walmart. so i closed the account and then verified it with my bank.
- Amy replies to Katharine| 1 replyThis IS a legitimate number. I called and found out that someone has been very busy charging online purchases on my business card. Half of the charges hadn't even hit my online statement yet and others were put on hold before they could reduce my balance. I am VERY lucky that they were so prompt and I called this number back or I wouldn't have noticed until my account was overdrawn. I have much more appreciation for my bank now knowing they use this service. :-)
- Thomas replies to AmyReceived a call on a Sunday afternoon about my bank debit card. First thing I did was check my account info over the past month. Found absolutely nothing suspicious! While it may be true that others may have had fraudulent activity on their card that caused this service to be activated, it's a complete falsehood in my case.
I never had a company notified me about a fraud that doesn't exist yet! Relly weird, as I would expect to see a charge/debit posted that I don't recognize, and then maybe get a call (though I would think the bank expects YOU to report unauthorized charges, not the other way around).
Highly suspicious way of countering credit card fraud in my opinion. But who knows, right?
