- pockets| 1 replyAmerican Community Survey, I believe it is a legitimate number, but there is a small chance of spoof. Good idea to call them. They should answer as something like the Census Bureau, though I don't know exactly what words they will use. They will ask a long list of questions. It's best to fill out a questionnaire. Could take close to an hour, so make sure you have all that time. Survey is required if you have been selected, but I don't know what will happen if you refuse. If you have been selected, you will have received a survey in postal mail, followed by a post card informing you of the survey. If you wait, someone will come to the door, and it might be at the least convenient time.

- pocket brain replies to pocketsIt's a BAD idea to call them. Are you crazy? Let's all VOLUNTEER to have our privacy invaded and help ANYBODY steal our IDENTITY. The so-called community survey is EVIL and part of systematic plan to build dossiers on citizens of this country by a hopelessly corrupt government of democrats and republicans, much of which is also shared with private corporations so they can try to sell you overpriced junk you don't need. AND YOU WANT TO HELP THEM???
What a fool. Either you have some vested interest in this SCAM or you're terminally stupid -- OR BOTH. Don't spew this garbage on here, please.
If you refuse, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU. No one has EVER been prosecuted for refusing to participate in this evil enterprise. - Possibly stupid| 2 repliesFrom all the research I did, I found that this has been happening for over thirty years now and helps to determine what kind of assistance may or may not be needed in the area you live in. Such as public transportation, financial aid ect... It is from the census bureau and they do threaten to fine people if you do not complete the survey - either way if it is truely to assist in providing better services to the area I live in well then I'll answer the questions. As long as they do not ask for social security numbers, bank account numbers or a credit information - I do not have a problem answering the questions. BECAUSE anyone can get information on anyone else if they really want to and pay for the information.....

- yes u r stupid replies to Possibly stupidJust because your privacy means nothing to you is no reason to defend the indefensible. We don't pay taxes for the dubious privilege of having our privacy systematically invaded.
There are plenty of places where authoritarian rule is more mature than it is in the USA, maybe you'd be happier there. Or just wait, as long as there are people like you, we'll be like that too in no time. - BearIt's a primary survey and a public call number for the US Census Bureau. I just received an advance notice letter from them that my address is being included in the American Community Survey, effectively an ongoing demographic data collection as part of the 10 year census cycle. I called the Regional Field Office and they confirmed my address from the case number, making the connection through three broken chains, which is pretty hard to spoof.

- NAI don't think anyone needs to invade my privacy with their American Community Survey or threaten to charge me if I don't reveal personal information about my family.
Are they crazy? They are supposed to use the census to count people, not nose into their lives. If they want to know about our community they can do it with our voter registration. They have no business singling out people asking them personal information that they will keep on file forever for who knows what.
This is really an UN-American community survey. They should pay me for my time, not threaten to fine me for details of my life. - j westIt said that my household was has been randomly selected. It doesn't have any name just the address. The Censes Bureau
counted people not addresses. This is what the survey from the Justice dept. said.t I got it last week. I am not going to
answer anything with no name on it with just an address.- Caller: U. S. Department of Commerce

- PlutoI got this card from the United States Department of Commerce Economic and Statistics Administration U. S. Census Bureau on 9/9/17. I do not know if it is legit since there is so many HACKERS out there that are looking for a free ride. There is no name on the card only the address but no apt number. I am going to try their web site first but I will not call. Will post if it is legit or not. The number listed is 1-800-354-7271.
- Just facts pleaseSo there are post of personal opinions on individuals thoughts and feelings about this survey and that's ok. Did anyone actually call them and what did you find out please?
- Matilda replies to Possibly stupidWe all live in a Region. If survey is sent from other Region the answers are not helping the region you live. Information is used for something else than it said in the initial notice. I think U S Census BUREAU HAS TO TAKE ACTION AGAINST ABUSE OF POWER . REGIONAL AGENCY IS AN AUTHORIZED PARTY TO SOLICITATE PERSONAL INGORMATION OF A RESIDENT.
- DarrylContacted US Census Bureau from there official website Department of Commerce main phone line 202 482-2000. They confirmed the American Community Survey is real and 800-354-7271 is valid.
